The most overrated Movies/TV series?

In my opinion these are the most overrated movies and TV series. I am not going to mention the obvious ones like Avatar, LOTR, etc. Just those that are not usually considered overrated.

1. Anything from Christopher Nolan. Be it Inception, Interstellar, Tenet, etc. I find most of his films extremely boring and pretentious. Some of his older movies are good, but still overrated.

2. The John Wick series. I mean everyone is masturbating on these films. Are they really that good? I don't think so.

3. Game of Thrones. The most overrated show in the history. Nothing else needs to be said...

4. Some anime movies/shows. I don't remember their names but there is like a billion of anime movies and shows that are glorified, because people just like anime for some reason.

5. Most of the Marvel/superhero movies.

Your thought?

I have watched Interstellar ("The Masterpiece") on its release in one of the best cinemas, and even paid for the Imax version or something like that... One of the worst movies I have seen, and I wasn't alone with that opinion.

Rewatched Inception and Tenet lately and fell asleep.

@FourCrossedWands, I agree that the movie "Tenet" isn't good, but the others that I have watched are great.

Maybe you don't like his genre or have different expectations.

His movies are metaphysical and original.

Chris Nolan gets way too shade for being pretentious. No one else can or will make good original movies at that level and scope.

He's not IP whoring like most modern franchises, who are too afraid to come up with new characters and settings.

You guys gotta rethink Interstellar if you think thats overrated. It very much deserves the praise. The ending may be off a bit, but overall phenomenal movie. Also Matthew's acting is unmatched in that.

I would add Fight Club to this list. I actually love fight club because Im able to pick and choose elements for my purposes of thinking of life. But a lot of guys use it for their red pill ideology, and whats funny is Tyler Durden thinks he's not materialistic. But the amount of work he put to get that certain look is definitely materialistic lol .. though the look is awesome.

@Jayson G Fight Club is totally recontextualized if you get to know the author Chuck Palahniuk and read his other books.

The movie is great, but its a totally different thing compared to what Chuck is trying to say. 

Chuck is a gay man who is endlessly fascinated with human suffering and the relatable beauty we can find in it.

David Fincher is a straight, edgy, crime film director making a mass market production

The creative intent is totally different. The red pill stuff is totally a projection from culture, not at all what Chuck was interested in.

I don’t agree with the take on Nolan’s films. The Dark Knight 2008, Interstellar, Inception and Oppenheimer are absolute classics. Like top 100 movies of all time. 

I also second Leo on GoT. It’s true tho once they ran out of the material it slumped. 
 

 John Wick is a “fast movie” franchise, one that I enjoy because Reeves is an all time favourite and the actual aesthetic of the last 2 movies is superb.

I agree about Marvel tho - everything after the original Iron Man is overrated IMO.

@Staples oh thats really interesting, but how does that make the movie's meaning change? Like so you're saying that based on his other books, the meaning of the movie changes, but to what? He's trying to say what exactly? 

I have to rewatch fight club because its been a while but from that I didnt get the message that "there's beauty in human suffering".

And yeah I can see what you mean about the red pill stuff, it probably is mostly projection, people using it for their agenda kind of thing.

The juicy meaning comes from knowing a bit about who Chuck is as a person. Go watch his Joe Rogan interviews.

Try reading it from a gay male perspective. He also is trying to get you to release your own trauma by sharing traumatic stories in vivid detail.

Yeah mate, we've heard of them...Those are by no means small fry directors.

They're all original in their own way. I love Yorgos Lanthimos particularly. But Nolan is the only one commanding $100m+ budgets for high concept films.

It's a totally different level of responsibility and movie biz politics. It is near-impossible to get hyper-capitalist producers to invest in an unproven idea, yet Nolan is able to do it.

Because that "unproven idea" is still backed by CGI and low-grade popcorn action. It's guaranteed people will fall for it.
