This is why the body doesn't know how to heal itself. Keep giving it drugs upon drugs upon drugs is like slapping a child over and over again when it cries without getting to the cause of why it's crying. One symptom leads to another and before you know it, a catastrophe occurs. Gently leading it back to homeostasis is a more suitable approach.

Ofc, i don't even buy supplements like magnesium for this precise reason.

Now i only would use medication in case of urgency.

Yes, medication can be good for that where applicable; especially when the body is already confused, but only if taken for a short period and depending on the cause.

Have you tried to cut off most of distractions during the day like music, youtube shorts etc ?

Have you tried meditation ?

i hardly watch YouTube shorts anymore and i started doing more things offline. music is helpful, i believe, so i won't cut that out.

not really fond of meditation rn.

Never buy vitamins from the drugstore.  Choose a health food store instead or do research on reputable companies - this applies mostly in the US, not sure about other countries. They are usually not regulated.

i live in Germany. as far as i'm concerned, everything's regulated here lol. but i get your point:)

Still look at the (other) ingredients and do an itemized search on their properties and side effects.

yeah i think you're right about this. it's probably safer (more reliable) to order supplements online.

It's not just about online, and I'm weary about online supplements also, but about the company that manufactured them.

:o

Me too i would be still insomniac if i lived in the country where people wear socks and sandals in the same time, and where the national dish is cold cuts and bad beer.

@Judy2

For over 2 years I have had at least 2 sleepless nights per week, and now I systematically sleep 6 to 9 hours per night, without any supplements or medication.
You can ask for more if you want.

In any case each person's structure is different, but to put it simply, already:

For sleep anxiety, it will paradoxically stop when you totally accept that you are "potentially permanently insomniac", "that I will certainly not sleep tonight and that there is no point in complaining".
It is the same thing if it is about other ruminations, obviously it is easier said than done so it takes time and that is why I told you about meditation.

It is not about stopping thinking, but about generating thoughts that do not require too much effort; Compulsive thoughts that prevent you from sleeping are things that concern your power process and its issues (positive daydreams as well as ruminations).

@Schizophonia yeah i figured i'll just get up when i can't sleep and pretend there's no need to sleep at all and if i want to, i can stay up all night and keep myself busy.

if you ever wanna hear a German girl attempt to speak French, let me know:)

Maybe do what I do. I actually have a problem trying to stay awake. I only watch movies at night when I'm ready to tuck in, but the movie always end up watching me. I'll lay down not even feeling sleepy, but I can't seem to stay awake pass the first 10-15mins of the movie.

My sleep schedule is rather sporadic ad well. Sometimes I will wake up at 5am full of energy to start my day, other times I'll sleep for 10 hours.

I don't categorize it as a health condition though. I don't feel exhausted or malnourished. Maybe sleep isn't designed to function exactly the same every single night (like clockwork).

I loosened my grip on what a perfect sleep schedule "should be." And I try to just sleep when I'm tired. It's been a very peaceful experience for me.

Now, that being said, if you feel like you have actual factual insomnia... then that might be something you want to look into more. Sometimes an unhealthy liver can spasm during the night as you sleep causing you to wake up "for no reason."

So, maybe try leaning into your imperfect sleep schedule a little bit? Use the awake time to plan projects or read interesting books... or just do what excites you :)

actually i think it is? when i sleep well, usually my body sets a specific time and that's always roughly the same every day.
