what are morals

10 posts in this topic

where do they come from?

how much of it is sincere?

how much of it is to attack others? or feel better about oneself than others

how much of it is virtue signalling?(maybe to get points from a group, to belong to a group, survival etc)

i remember when i was a kid my mother would tell me i’m too moral.

but i don’t really remember if it was sincere or to somehow attack her out of frustration or something like a self defense

Morals come from a recognition of the unity of being

When we recognise we are the same and not different I am you and you are actually me then it's only natural to want the best for you as I want the best for myself

survival mechanism. You dont need morals to be a good person. All a moral is is saying I will never do that because I am too good so I think they are all virtue signals. You can just not do it and not have to say you will never do that thing and a moral would be useless word to describe something that dosent happen.

Given infinite time everyone will do everything. Given infinite time everyone will want to commit immoral acts just to what extreme is the question. This is where acceptance and unconditional love play the role of you are here for infinite time you will do everything you shun people for doing things you right now wouldnt do but we are in infinite time here and you will do it. Infact the more you demonize something the higher the chances you are to do it. Saying I WILL NEVER DO THAT IM TOO GOOD is an identifier and you are identifying with whatever horrific act you are morally against.

When I say you I dont mean specifically you its just how I talk. I mean the soul or essence.

Morals are an attempt at reducing conflict within oneself.

It's not hard to see how lieing, stealing, being violent, lustful, greedy, prideful, etc. can lead to internal conflicts, not just by effect of their own nature but also through the effects of their outcomes.

It's not a coincidence that when you are successfully moral, you feel comparitively more relieved and relaxed.

Morals, for the most part, do not promote unity/integrity within oneself, but rather preserve it from fragmentation. Integrity is increased through self-discovery and authenticity.

There's not much more to it than this here.

Based on the above information, it becomes quite easy to see that virtue signalling comes from a place of conflict and is not moral, even if the acts done outwardly appear to be.

Sincerity is a by-product of integrity.

This also explains why enlightened beings, like Krishna, acted in immoral ways such as deception, despite them being the epitome of righteousness. It's because they do not require morals to preserve their unity any more, they are already at one with everything. By nature, any act such beings perform, is therefore right.

Morals are, don't do harm to yourself or others

and are transcended early on the path

The deeper rules concern helping oneself and others

You're the pilot of a mecha, but its co-controlled by 4 others

And morals is figuring out how to make it function as a team

Morals are your individual view of how to treat life/others/yourself.
Ethics are a more communal code of conduct.
There are few ethical norms that hold true between continents, and morals distinctly differ.

I do like this though:

It is well put.

Then you find yourself in the conundrum of: What is actually best for someone else ;) (that part of you) and you back into the spiral of relativity and look outward for what's inside. Then you look inside and refine to project outward, then you are back to the collective again to apply and receive feedback etc.

People operate inside out, and outside in.
