Monster Energy Drinks: Are They Really That Bad? Plus, Falling Off Healthy Eating

Do you ever completely fall off the healthy eating wagon? I’m talking about going from eating everything organic and gluten-free to suddenly indulging in junk food like Chips Ahoy and pasteurized cow's milk.

Sounds like healthy eating is something you currently have to pressure yourself towards rather than gravitate towards naturally. If that's the case it could be that subconsciously you still don't value your health enough?

or maybe you think you do until your willpower weakens after having whipped yourself to eat healthy for couple day. And so with the mindful "gatekeeper" off duty, you actually slide into your natural desires for junk food because that's what your current default setting is.

Its not criticism at all, just something worth thinking about :) This is actually super super common and something we all probably experience to some degree

Its almost the same as wanting to go from no-gym to 5-days a week - gym. Or wanting to go from spending 8 hours a day on social to getting rid of all social media in 24 hours. Doesn't work, the dopaminergic withdrawal is too rapid and too aggressive. Symptoms become unbearable. And so it needs to be tempered of gradually.

Not necessarily the case. My default setting is healthy eating and after getting into Spirituality, my body went haywire for a bit. Cravings kicked in. Didn't eat ice-cream for at least 10yrs straight and all of a sudden I was craving it. This came after I settled my oreo cookie craving. Other small stuff but not as bad as these, which I never eat - ice-cream, yes, but cut out for good except my home-made banana ice-cream, which did nothing for my craving. I followed Leo's advice for how to quit cravings and it worked on the oreos; the ice-cream I did on my own after I started to see the effects.

This is coming from someone who is not really a health nut, but very really binged on junk food with no will power needed. I later learnt that Spiritual awakenings can cause the body to do this. Something about the ego resisting change or the body purging and cleansing itself too fast of emotional impurities and sends the hormones out of balance.

This is a pretty common story in the Spiritual community and have seen multiple stories on this. The OP did say he watched some of Leo's videos and seems to be into Spirituality somewhat, so I'm assuming this is what's also happening. Didn't mention it to him since my response was already a bit lengthy, so I left it alone but just wanted to bring this to your attention. I still could be wrong, but it's a possibility.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Eating healthy comes naturally to me, it's just that after a while I want to indulge sometimes! And I might go overboard like yesterday! So what’s the solution?

What’s Leo's advice on how to cut cravings?

Self-talk can be helpful for getting lasting change imo.

Can do things like CBT, the work, the book 'what to say when you talk to yourself', and IFS therapy.

Still something im working on myself.

Red bull are cleaner.

It's just sugar, CO2, caffeine and some supplements.

Maybe a little bit better, but red bulls get a bad wrap too. There’s something to be said about the energy behind mass produced items in general. And probably less than ideal ingredients.

Saying Red Bull is "cleaner" because it has fewer ingredients is missing the point. Both Red Bull and Monster are packed with caffeine and sugar, which mess with your heart, blood sugar, and energy levels. You can get energy from healthier sourceswhole foods, proper sleep, and hydration.

That's fair, i haven't considered this to be an option but you might be right

Main thing starts at around 10:00, but just watch the whole thing if you can, its not that long. Worked for me, mainly because I knew that particular craving had to go.
