Monster Energy Drinks: Are They Really That Bad? Plus, Falling Off Healthy Eating

33 posts in this topic

Question 1:

Are Monster energy drinks really that bad for you? They give me energy, focus, and the drive to work on my purpose. If it's the only thing that works for you, would you still drink it? Coffee doesn’t work for me, and I’m in a country where healthier options aren't available. Please share your thoughts on this!

Question 2:

Do you ever completely fall off the healthy eating wagon? I’m talking about going from eating everything organic and gluten-free to suddenly indulging in junk food like Chips Ahoy and pasteurized cow's milk.

I watched one of Leo’s earlier videos on becoming a highly actualized person, and one of the first things he mentioned was cutting out all addictions, including "smaller addictions", such as food—like, immediately. I don’t know, but food addiction is one of my struggles, especially with sugar, and it’s not easy to quit.

I’m very aware of my unhealthy eating habits (Eckhart Tolle says being aware is enough to start dissipating the behavior), but I’m curious—what are your thoughts on breaking these habits?

Not to mention how these low-quality foods can seriously lower your "vibe."

@Leo Gura: I would love if you could please share your thoughts on this.

At least replace it with fresh juice. It's a no-brainer.

Any stimulant you get from an energy drink you can replace with a cleaner and more potent supplement.

Sugar is not so bad as everyone says. You can find healthy sugars like honey or juice to satisfy your sugar cravings.

I hear you- it’s not as straightforward as it sounds, especially when it comes to addiction. When the mind has its grips on you and is craving those Chips Ahoy with milk, it’s tough to just switch to fruit juice. How do you reconcile that struggle? I’m really seeking advice on navigating this.

@Fountainbleu Apply consciousness to see that junk food is self-destructive, hurting your future, and just commit to living healthy.

Find healthy foods that taste good to you. Juice tastes great so this isn't hard.

Monster drinks can increase heart rate and cause irregular heartbeat due to the overload of caffeine. Anxiety, dehydration, insomnia, headaches and gastrointestinal issues amongst others.

Fruit juices that are bought in stores packed in boxes, jars and glass bottles except for ones made from whole fruits and not from concentrate can be just as bad or worse than drinking sodas. They are also unhealthy due to the processing procedure, additives and the removal of the fibre from the whole fruit which makes up majority of the fruit juices bought from store shelves. Knudsen brand fruit juices are one of the few I trust; and other than that, I drink only specific kombuchas. I have yet to see any other juices on the market that are considered healthy choices. That said, this is just information to be aware of when trying to decide for yourself and to not be misled when making drink choices. At least if you're purchasing a drink that you know isn't healthy, but believe that it, is you're not misinformed. I occasionally buy ginger ale when there are no kombuchas around and when i would like a drink other than water. At least I'm aware of what it is and not consume it very often.

Coconut water bought from store shelves can also be misleading but there are varieties made from pure coconut water that are trustworthy, just need to read the label. That can be a good replacement for energy drinks because of the electrolytes it provides. This is just me, but the only thing i buy from stores to drink is water, kombucha, trusted pure coconut water and Knudsen brand fruit juices and an occasional ginger ale (the only soda I'll drink maybe once every few months or more depending). That's it. I stay away from sports drinks like gatorade and the likes, Tropicana juices, Ocean Spray, Simply brand juices, Naked juices and everything else.

Even freshly made fruit juices made at home needs to be specially curated due to the concentrated sugar content and fibre that's been removed. I don't even recommend freshly squeezed orange juice unless lemons or lime and ginger juice and grapefruit is added. Even then drink sparingly. A favorite juice of mine to make is oranges, lemon/lime, grapefruit, ginger juice and freshy squeezed pomegranate. Before I knew this information I used to juice just oranges and drink all the time but noticed my blood sugar levels felt different every time I consumed it and i always felt tired. This is why, the concentrated sugar was enormous without the pulp and dropped my glucose levels.

Try drinking first thing in the morning lemon water or water with a pinch of Celtic sea salt for a lasting pick-me-up along with eating an apple. That will set the stage for a sustainable energy boost which lasts longer than coffee or an energy drink.

Juices like watermelon, cucumber, carrots, beets and vegetables is fine to juice by themselves no problem but be careful of just pure fruit juicing. Berries are fine also but best in smoothie form because of texture.

Caffeine pills! It's likely mostly the caffeine that you are addicted to. You get the caffeine but much cheaper and without all the unnecessary junk. You should ve able to find them in 100mg pills in a pharmacy. Dissolve 1-2 in some fruit juice or something and enjoy that caffeine high!

Although I think fruit juice is also really bad for health, it's just concentrated sugar water without any of the original fibers that were in the plant to slow down absorption.

Red bull are cleaner.

It's just sugar, CO2, caffeine and some supplements.

Some supplements "stimulate" because they increase catecholamines, histamine or acetylcholine.
It's no different than drinking coffee.

Saying Red Bull is "cleaner" because it has fewer ingredients is missing the point. Both Red Bull and Monster are packed with caffeine and sugar, which mess with your heart, blood sugar, and energy levels. You can get energy from healthier sourceswhole foods, proper sleep, and hydration.

That's what you think. I just did a quick search of ingredients in caffeine pills. Of course depending on the brand. But there's a chance one can buy caffeine pills made from synthetic caffeine also.

Inactive ingredients can include: Corn starch, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, silica, stearic acid, cellulose gum, methylcellulose glycerin.

Far cry from just plain old caffeine.
