There has been a lot of development in this ongoing war. Russia successfully recovered the land of Kursk and weakened their opponent's army doing so, there were thousands of soldiers there. This was a bad idea from the start, Ukraine could have used this power to defend its territory, and Russia may open a new front in Sumy now. They may use that to do the exchange that Ukraine was willing to do with Kursk in future negotiations. Meanwhile it keeps advancing in the Ukrainian territory.

The diplomatic route has not been great, but at least it exists now. After the resounding White House meeting, Europe said they would take over, but they've already changed their mind, and now they are talking about a ceasefire. A 30-day ceasefire agreed upon by the US and Ukraine, the only problem is that Russia had no say in that. Putin rightfully asked what would the terms of that ceasefire would be, because otherwise, it has the momentum on the battlefield, and no incentive to go along with that. There is some acknowledgment from Western leaders that some territory concessions will have to happen, but Zelensky rejects them in their totality. So there we are now.

@Hatfort Nice summary. Europe simply isn’t understanding Russias core concern.

The idea that buffer states must pledge loyalty to one power or another like medieval vassals is a modern distortion, not the historical norm.

For most of history, multiple power centers coexisted, and buffer nations functioned as neutral bridges rather than frontline battlegrounds. Not always peaceful, but there were times of peace where power centres knew their red lines.

The reason that reality has been forgotten is that for the past two centuries, the world has been shaped by a succession of dominant unipolar hegemons - first the British, and now the US - both imposing a unipolar universalist mindset on world affairs. Under their paradigm, buffer states aren’t independent actors but must pick a side: either adversary or ally.

Putin being the modern day Hitler ready to conquer Europe is the present day version of WMD in Iraq.

Russia is the biggest country in the world and no other country has a buffer state.

Damn, Ukranians are getting chopped up. So sad Zelensky is throwing away the future of his country (the youth) away so cheaply, basically for nothing, by fighting a lost battle. His end will not be nice when Ukrainian population found at all was for nothing.

Russia allows any ukrainian to surrender, they can surrender any time. You'd think them being on the front line they know more than you or Russian propagandists as to what they face, or don't face.

This is just a silly comparison.

Iraq didn't have nukes, the claim was they were trying to develop them. Which is a great time to invade: Before they get them.

I think Putin had a say he's just playing games.   And Trump better bring himself down a notch if he thinks he can control him.  It's all about control.

Now Boris Johnson states the obvious, which everyone already knew. The interesting thing is that any allusion to this was absolutely prohibited in the Western press. It was forbidden to deviate from the official line of opinion, which everyone knows is false. An interesting way of acting in the West. Where is the difference with China?

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine about Russia attacking its neighbors like Ukraine and Georgia in the past and the argument he gave me was: "As long as you do not mess with Russia nothing happens. You only get attacked when you are unfriendly to Russia. The solution is easy, be nice and diplomatic to them". How would your respond to this?

USA also act like that. When Gaddafi attacked the Mighty Dollar in an attempt to create the Gold Dirham, a pan-Arab currency to replace the petrodollar, Libya was bombed and sent back to the Middle Ages.

True, the meme logic isn’t technically correct but points at the general truth of it being crazy to fafo with a nation full of nukes.

Always remember to leave it to the third keyboard batalion to have the most accurate opinions on the war and frontline developments. Second Youtube army also has the most invaluable insights, had the predictions of these esteemed military experts (with no political bias whatsoever of course) been correct, RuZZian tanks would be rolling down the streets of Paris by now
