For sure, it is a manifestation of the 'evil' gene.  Sick puppies they be.  In that opinion, I will not relent!

@What Am I The topic of Mexico can be interesting.  No doubt they have serious problems. But what is the story?  It's complex, one of the common refrains maintains that Mexican immigrants should stay home and fix their own state.  Well, they have been fighting a revolution since the 1800's against foreign infiltration on the one hand, and if statistical reports are accurate most of the population in Mexico is already living in the U.S.  Which is only fair because at least from the perspective of the Indigenous it was their continent to begin with.

Damn, that's crazy. Yeah, I wasn't commenting on the immigration aspect, but more so using Mexico's current state as a cautionary example. Now that I know about their severe issues involving political assassinations, I can understand even more why individuals in Mexico would take extreme risks to come to the US by any means necessary. Sounds like a scary place to be.

@What Am I My older brother once cautioned me to stay out of Mexico because 'they don't care who you are'.  At the time, I took his advice and went to San Francisco instead... :)

@PurpleTree I am talking about the 'evil' gene.

This book was the first 'serious' book on the philosophy and science of genetics that I read. Before and after, I considered Dawkins a poopoohead.

"The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins.

I read others later that led me down the path to the 'evil' gene.  Incidentally, I see that a book was written with that title but I haven't read it because despite its popularity and supposed depth of philosophy it seemed silly to me. :)

@PurpleTree Oh dear me, ok, it is termed 'the warrior gene' in some scientific communities.  It is known/hypothesized that it propagated through Europe during the Neolithic Age.  Its spread outpaced natural selection by a considerable margin akin to an overnight development in genetic drift/mutation processes.  It displaced the genetics of what I consider more benign creatures, such as any lingering Neanderthals, hunter-gatherers, farmers, and Celts (although there was some early admixture in those clans)

sounds like total bs guy

very very silly

another dumb idea to get lost in

also if you call this the « evil » gene do you think they are more evil than let’s say some tribes and civilisations in the americas?

these people sacrificed so many people (women children and all) just to see the sun come up another day and would probably still do it if europeans didn’t stop them.

also i did the 23 and me i have some neanderthal in me and i have a celtic name whoop whoop 🙌

anyway about trump getting shot at. 3s a charm. jk i hope nobody gets shot

yes, I would tend to that because there is a big difference between social customs with ostensibly the more civilized being the more morally conscious.  Problem is, it doesn't match.  It is like the difference between Judaism and Christianity.  Christianity was a manifestation of the concept of progressive revelation.  It seems the right has not received the memo yet?

Oh we having some fun now...I will one up your Celtic and Neanderthal (I've got both) but one of my direct ancestors is known as the "Inca Ice Maiden".  The sacrifices were in most cases very sensitive and thoughtful.  Read yo' history!

@PurpleTree It is difficult to be racist against oneself, but then if Uncle Clarence Thomas, Candace Owens, Tim Scott...et al, can do it, why oh why can't I.

I would never condone such violence upon any human. Think about this supposedly Lee Harvey Oswald got off three shots with an old Italian bolt action rifle in only six seconds on a moving target that was 250 feet away and scored two hits. I believe he was a Marine, it almost sounds impossible. And that was in 1963. Nowadays in 2024, we have Self-aiming' or targeting rifles which I had no idea existed until a few days ago. Anyway, Go figure.

This time the Secret Service did fine though, they caught the shooter soon enough, unlike the first shooter who actually shot and almost killed Trump.

Of course this is awful, and it has the aggravation to be a political target, for what this means to democracy. Poor countries where the CIA operates know this well, they kill anyone who starts getting popular support that they don't like, who could make a change for the better. Then some people wonder why people migrate from those countries. Anyway, there's the clearly related topic of gun control and background checks, but that's a big no for Republicans. They are trying to blame the rhetoric, then they should start from themselves first.

Trump is still a danger to democracy though, he has said it himself, and we saw it in 2020 too. The judicial system has failed for not punishing his criminal behavior. That doesn't mean anyone wants him to be killed, but at this point what we need is for people to vote this shitty conman out of any public administration position, which is not guaranteed.

@Hatfort yeah, I agree, the problem is now I'm getting the nagging feeling that Trump and/or one of his minions hired this poor sap with nothing left to lose to play the role of an assassin.  He hid for 12 hours, he had his gun visible from how many yards away? He never fired a shot, he was not injured in the exchange, he casually rode down the interstate until they captured him and the whole while he was whistling "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah".  It was a conspiracyyyyyyyy.

A conspiracy to change the unfavorable media narrative to this? Can't say no, to be honest. They would have to find this fool to agree, but isn't he a fool or a loony if he tried this himself anyway? Who knows.
