Is prostitution okay if legal and regularized?

72 posts in this topic

I would never have sex with a prostitute because I would never use a person to satisfy my sexual needs. But still: you are free to do whatever you want with your body. So if you want to sell it then you better do it in a country where it's legal, regularized, safe and controlled (if you're not forced into prostitution, and if a country has regularized: health, safety, licensing, worker rights, protection, control on exploitation, etc)

Probably most people do it out of desperation for money. In a country where the lower class has a good standard of living this might be the most exceptable because no one would do it out of complete desperation.

I mean there is the possibility that somebody just loves pleasuring lonely people and it would be sad if they couldnt make money with their passion.

I cant tell if realistically someone would think that way.

Yes I agree. But why do people still do it in richer countries where there is plenty of possibilities to find a random job?

Probably these people are in heavy situations, and with prostitution you can make a lot of money (at least in the Netherlands from what I know) so you can help your family situation abroad, or whatever...

Personally I wouldn't take this job, even if desperate, but of course I have no idea what prostitutes go through, so it's easy for me to say

Couple times I was approached by men who had their wives upstairs in the hotel room. 90% of my clients have gfs or wives and this is the case all over in this field. Lonely people are home jerking off or out looking for mates. Prostitutes are there for people to engage where no feelings are expected. Most people don't go to prostitutes because they are lonely or fat or bald or who can't get relationships. People are just non-monogamous by nature. They have to force themselves to be monogamous or find a reason to be.

In your eyes it's not a random job, for others it is.

A husband uses his wife and vice versa to satisfy their sexual needs. Same with bfs and gfs. We are using people to satisfy our sexual needs, even through porn. Don't get it twisted. The mind is very tricky and self-deception is very rampant.

People are prostituting themselves all over the world, it's just some directly and some not. The only difference is in the wording. We will deny this, but it is what it is.

If the argument is that prostitution is wrong because they do it because of an economic disparity, which I could agree to a degree, but how is it that different from so many other jobs people do? It should be respected if there's choice, consent, and no coercion of any kind. I wouldn't criminalize clients either, like some laws try to do. Some regulations and or protection measures to avoid dangers and problems, I think that's reasonable. The world is not perfect, welcome.

Yes I do use my girlfriend to satisfy my sexual needs, but that's not the goal. Sex (at least for me) is really meaningful and I would never be able to have any kind of interaction without feelings. But of course we're not all the same

You are right! The problem is that prostitution is a nasty job and plenty of people get hurt in ine way or another. Hence my question: does prostitution become better as a job if regularized

Yeah I agree. But still I wouldn't be happy if my daughter or son prostitute themselves...do you think this is a close-minded idea?

No, it's understandable, and I wouldn't call it close-minded. But part of this feeling may have been socially conditioned in the first place.

But it's mostly work done in the shadows, there can be a social price to pay for doing it, so there are legit reasons for a parent not to want it, even if extremely open-minded.

I think your perception is very skewed because you are constantly in contact with people like that.

Legalizing prostitution might help regulate it and make society safer, but it doesn’t solve the deeper issue. Prostitution exists because many people’s basic needs, both material and emotional, aren’t being met.

To really address this, we would need to end conflicts, redirect resources, and focus on education and personal growth. By helping people move to higher stages of development, where they think more consciously and empathetically, industries like prostitution would gradually fade away.

Honoring the self I've grown to love.

i think it’s ok

it does attract problems though like shady people, drugs, coercion, human trafficking etc

but also i think alcohol should be legal and that does also cause problems like drunk driving, people fighting, addiction etc

I'm aware of this but it's not what I base my reasoning off of. Even on this very forum I see it. My friends, neighbors family members and acquaintances. I'm not saying every single person is this way, so let's get this clear. Not even saying that most people cheat. It's in their nature and for most who don't, it's a restraint mechanism, (don't put myself in situation, avoiding certain places for risks of cheating, making sure to not do this and to not do that) they have to secure themselves in that way, especially if they've been in the relationship for a while.

Because of what I do, I've made sure to not let it skew me and to base it off of that; that is something I'm conscious of. I've seen where people don't cheat not because they never felt the urge or wanted to but the liabilities and consequences were not worth the risk. So I'm saying people have to restrain themselves and talk themselves into why it's not a good idea while the other way around is more natural. Basically no one goes around saying I need to develop a tendency where I can feel like cheating on my partner, i want to cheat so I'm going to make myself want to, if that's the case I'm sure that's very rare.

The actual act, just like with basically everybody, is what's done in the shadows. Brothels are on roadsides, in Amsterdam women are in windows, prostitutes are on the streets advertising in the open and some bars and casinos, they're openly advertising themselves. Online, with pictures and bios, it's everywhere. The only thing in the shadows, for the most part, is the act itself or with people trying to hide the fact that that's what their motive is.

No, that's not being closed-minded, just protective.

Spirituality can attract suicidals. The Church can attract con-artists who just want to steal your money and Priesthood can attract child molesters, and the list goes on, casinos can attract addicts, bars can attract predators, hospitals can attract pill addicts, schools can attract mass shooters, airports can attract hijackers.

Drugs can attract students, human traffickers can lure in regular people like teenagers and children and coercion can happen anywhere.
