I have problem choosing between 2 life purpose.

19 posts in this topic

So I have some trouble figuring out what life-purpose to pick. I have a lot of passions for many areas of life. I want to master all of it, but Leo says I can only pick ONE thing to master. I took the LP course, but I found out that I have 2 LPs.

First one consists of visual art. I like 3d digital art, painting and street art.

The 2nd is in the field of biology. I also like chemistry and to some degree math. Biology is fun and interesting to learn. I have always been fascinated by living organisms  and viruses.

I am not really that good at math and chemistry, but I have been getting better as I have been studying them both on my own after I failed math and chemistry in high school. I found out that I study better on my own without any bs school grade pressure.

I feel like i have 2 options:

1. I pick art or biology now and then create a career in either one of them for some few decades. Then after some few decades I can start over again with a new LP. Should I go first with biology or art?

2. The next option would be to pick a career that combines art and biology or combine art and math. Then what would that be? Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

In Leo life purpose course he talks about contributing to humanity as for satisfaction in life-purpose. I don't feel like visual art can have any contribution to humanity. With biology I would like to help with inventing a treatment or a vaccine for various dangerous diseases, viruses and medical conditions. If I specialized in medicine I could save lives and have a much larger impact than visual art.

So you see I have so many paths I want to go down, but I don't know what path I should go down.

So any advice would be appreciated.

What gives you more joy, doing biology or art? Which makes you more excited with possibility?

Trying too hard to logically make a decision here might not be the best approach. Your mind can find good reasons for both.

Which one do you like the most?

Look at what you're practically gonna be doing with either or both, you'll regret boring options.

That is hard. I would say both. I like studying and understanding everything about biology into the chemical reactions in our body. Learning all of the latin words to the various species is a bit boring, but latin names are more cool then english. Although if i had to choose i would pick art.

Sorry not sure what you mean here.

Make biological art. Paint the human anatomy and create 3d art showing the biological structure of things.

Yes not a bad idea, i do like anatomy. That would be one way to go about it. The problem is that biology is large field with many sub fields so i want do more research on other ways i can combine art and biology. Like maybe i could paint plants, animals and other species.

It's okay to be multipassionate. You can study biology AND do art, one does not exclude the other. Just the opposite, these two can be mutually reinforcing, since both require a different mode of thinking that can help you advance. Studying biology will engage your scientific mind and help you develop critical thinking. Art will stimulate your creative, abstract thinking. You can practice both and then exchange the skills to come up with unique, out of box perspectives in both fields. Please keep in mind that your life purpose is not a static thing you find. It's fluid, mutable and everchanging, it evolves as you evolve. Today you want to explore viruses, tomorrow you can be hit with a realization that teaching school children about biology in a creative way is what brings you the most joy and fulfillment. Don't limit yourself.

If you're finding it difficult to decide, you could try introducing another variable into he equation  - what is likely to be more demanded by the market?

Provided that you are equally passionate about art & biology, given the advancements in AI and design,  you might find that specialising in a particular area of biology might make make it easier to find a job in the future and make a major contribution. With the likelihood of another pandemic, the gradual dying of species, devastation of natural habitats and ecosystems, there will be a growing need for people who are uniquely specialised to, for example, help with reintroduction of species, study the survivability of plants and animals, help do research on genetic hybridisation of fruits, vegetables, crops etc and continue doing research in the those areas etc. We will need marine biologists, more botanists, more zoologists, more doctors. And if you can uniquely position yourself in some area to do with climate changes, you are likely to be both fulfilled and in high demand.

On the far note, if you do choose to specialise in an area of biology, medicine etc, you may need to go down a university route to obtain a relevant degree but if you really enjoy the subject you'll likely enjoy your studies too and being surrounded by likeminded people will make it all more fun.

Ofcourse don't take that as a limiting belief and if you feel stronger about art, continue doing that on the side but at some point one of those will probably become a source of income so think about what the world is likely to demand more of, but don't sacrifice your soul while pursuing that although sometimes, temporarily that needs to happen.

Its okay not to have an immediate answer just yet, your LP will be formulating for years. If it was me, with only those choices, I'd go down the biology route. Just a personal opinion.

Read all the comments then make your own choice. Listen to your heart but also think of the practical implication and usefulness to the market.

All the best

Amen.

But for many people, it's in fact static.

Yes. It's even accurate to call people in their 70s and 80s old boys and girls. They have aged but their worldviews and perspectives haven't changed much since they were teenagers.

do you really find that meaninful and something that drives you and you're passionate about? or do you only wish you found it meaningful?

I don't see how you could fulfill this through art. It's pointing you into medicine or biology in your case

Dude, Brain-Machine Interfaces are all the rage and pre-art! Integrate it with AGI and boom, cancer solved 😁

Biology is dope! And so is Art! And their fusion is super-saiyan. Biomechanics, Morphology, Biology is great.

I do find it meaningfull, at least when it comes to impact on humanity. Humans are beautiful creatures, they desserve a life without fear of losing loved ones or their life to some diseases. I want eliminate suffering with invention of new cures in medicine. Also art has little imapact on humans in terms of physical. Sure maybe it can have a large impact on motivation, meaning and other emotions, but with inside of a field in biology like medicine i can have a much larger impact.

Also i would say my passion for biology is my oldest i have. This passion was born when i was between 10-12 years old, this passion still persist 10 years later. I would argue this passion will last forever until my death.

Dude! Art needs a vehicle. If you learn biology in depth, now you have a thought-medium to channel all sorts of creations.

Stephen Hillenberg (creator of Spongebob) majored in marine biology before becoming a cartoonist!

I am currently a geologist looking to create a philosophical-artistic product in the future. Eventually I may need someone with your talents.

Do what makes you happy wither way!
