if there is no free will (which seems to be the case)

and if there is free will it’s very limited because we don’t choose our thoughts, what interests us, what attracts us etc.

why do we get mad at peoples opinions and ideologies?

nobody chooses their thoughts even if they’re ultra woke or racist

so did anyone actually ever have an opinion? and politics is just mostly opinions

i still get triggered quite easily though if i get disrespected, treated unfairly or feel someone else gets treated unfairly in a certain way

then i get hard on myself for getting triggered or angry then i get disappointed in myself for getting hard on myself but i didn’t choose any of that seemingly

You answered your own question. We act robotically when we're angry. But I believe we do have some capacity for choice (distinguishing us from animals that have none), and to some extent, spirituality involves being more present and expanding that capacity.

In the same way you can't choose your opinions and ideologies, you can't choose your reactions to those things.

I think becoming more conscious makes us put ourselves in situations that make us think in new ways and give us the ability to see in what ways we could change ourselves. As you can see, becoming more conscious is an effect of some cause.

We're tainted by bias.  That starts very early on.  The struggle is to rise above this.  It's not that we don't have free will it's that in most cases things are beyond our control.  So we have just accept that and do what we can with the control we have.  Often times this comes with emotions.

How would you choose the criteria for what you like without being chained by them?
