Does God Possess Free Will?

9 posts in this topic

This inquiry revolves around the Christian God. At some point, God made the decision to create a material existence, which we can define as the moment when God brought creation into being.

This acknowledgment indicates that a decision may not necessarily have been required, yet we accept that something significant occurred. This leads us to the crucial question: Why did God create?

Several explanations often proposed seem inadequate: God created because it was lonely, because it desired to be loved, because it acted out of love, or simply because it could. These reasons do not hold up; even if God possesses the ability to do anything, that does not imply that God will act on all possibilities. Can God genuinely choose evil? Is there truly an option for God? Surely, God is complete and unified. If God had never created anything, would it not remain perfectly content?

This prompts further questions: Why did God create anything in the first place? Why would God allow any form of temptation? Why is there a need for tests at all? Why grant the Devil any freedom to operate? Why place the Tree of Knowledge in Eden? Why create beings in God's image, and does that suggest the existence of things not made in that image? What is the rationale behind the distinctions made in creation, and why does any difference exist at all? Why did God take any time to act? Why allow the possibility for creation to disobey or defy God? If God creates, can those creations not be perfect? Why permit imperfection? How can an angel fall from heaven?

We are left to ponder why God behaves or thinks in certain ways. Why did God choose this specific form of creation? Why two arms, two legs, and one head? Surely, other combinations of physical forms could have been equally effective, such as having three or four eyes.

When considering the reasons behind God’s actions, one might conclude that God does not make choices in the way we understand them. God does not need to test or prove anything; it does not require validation, as all of creation is inherently known to God. Some argue that God foresaw the failure of its creation in the face of temptation. Why not respond to Adam and Eve with, “That’s okay, try again”? How can an absolute, infinite, divine, and perfect being experience anger or punishment?

The most coherent understanding is that everything God has done is entirely purposeful. However, this leads to the question: Why couldn’t those purposes be different? Why must God act with intent, rather than allowing perfection to exist without interference? The only plausible reason for God's actions is that there was no other way things could have been. God does not make arbitrary choices or favor one option over another.

While it may initially seem reasonable to describe God as possessing free will, this notion may ultimately be flawed. We can assert that whatever God has done, it has done so with intention, meaning that there are no random or accidental actions. This suggests a limitation on possibilities; God must act in accordance with its own nature, which defines what it means to be God. The prospect of not being God is not an option for God.

We must consider that God cannot conform to any definitions that do not align with its essence, even though we may feel comfortable believing that God has free will and could choose any course of action. In truth, a divine and absolute nature may not function in that manner. Therefore, if God created humanity, it is because humanity is intrinsically part of God’s makeup. This leads us to conclude that God had to create humans as a fundamental aspect of its being.

Thus, when God creates something, it is an expression of what God is. Every action taken by God is necessary for the existence of divinity. If this were not the case, a perfect and divine being could simply exist in its own perfect state without the need to create anything. The existence of something within God's creation is not an accident or coincidence; it arises from the inherent nature of God. Creation was made in God's image or likeness because it is impossible for creation to be anything other than a reflection of its creator.

The end of separation is the end of desire. It’s life, it’s death, it’s unity; it is the absolute. In this profound realization, we find perfection eternal, a state of everlasting harmony.

The short answer to why God created creation is this

God is Intelligence and Love and Goodness

So He wouldn't create anything which is not out of Love or Goodness or Intelligence

We might never find out the reasons for creation but God definitely had reasons and the reasons are difinitely going to be satisfying and perfect for us once we find them out because it's God we're talking about so there's that trust in God there

But we may or may not find them out just yet

God has zero free will, in fact it's not god, it's just a product of the absence of limits. Can't avoid be, cant avoid be perfect, can't avoid be infinite. In fact god is you, and you, now, are balancing with your infinite intelligence the reality, because you can't avoid do it. Even you are a hooligan retarded who is all day drunk.

This is a very good post , but what is the actual question. Are you asking if God actually has free will or are you saying God doesn't have free will. Is the heading a question to be answered or are you answering it in your statements. Are you saying there's free will or no free will.

A fantastic way to express it! 🤪

Thank you very much. To clarify, I compared the concepts of free will and determinism against each other and arrived at my own conclusions regarding whether God possesses free will. It appears that my conclusion leans toward the idea that God may not have free will.

Yes

How could god have opposition!

It is the mover the shaker the maker the stirrer

Its will is all that there is

Its will is mine for real yet I am trying so hard to thwart it and usurp the absolute

In short life is choosing my want or its will

My want is that I be installed on the regal throne

Happy dream but better to see that this is all me and alignment be key
