Why are religions a thing?

16 posts in this topic

First, sorry for stupid title. I am, by no means, ever going to mock anyone for ANY belief system.

But I am personnally in such a dark time that I am considering trying to fit my life into some sort of religious system
But as I was contemplating the most discussed ones, I was wondering.
What is this? It's just humans writing stories, right? There was never any sign of god. Only confused people, or liars, or whatever made them believe their God told them to write about them.

So what point is there in following a religion?
I'm starting to think, as I dislike it, trust me, that all of this, if it's not always bad because it cas still be a tool for people to develop, is just a waste of time, compared to using actual science/psychology, etc (and trust me I'm NOT a science guy. I'm utterly stupid and ignorant).

For me religion, as it's basically thoughts and stories written by humans, are by no means anymore important or useful than any book or story of any type.

I feel like people are taking them so seriously, probably partly because of how old they are, and how blurred and exotic they seem to us. Basically they came first so they're better than whatever system of teachings and development that happened after them.
But why? Everything else has, broadly said, evolved ever since it was created (at least in terms of potential, not the use that is made of it, cause of course we have smartphones but clearly the way we use it is not always a step up from earlier technologies). So why is religion this set in stone, sacred thing?

Even if we started considering it was real, there is no way to check, right? Who said the persons that wrote the bible were not liars, manipulators, or mentally ill?

This is Solace, or on the level of Security, or What about Me (I hope I am taken care of and things go well), of course we all have this within us, its at a certain level, but in the end, as we see in the world today with all these conflicts, its causes allot of Suffering Individually and Collectively...

Sadhguru said in one of his videos that Religion is like cheap psychiatry, as well it puts a set of rules on society that helps it get along and flow, so its not so chaotic... but if You really buy into it then it is dangerous to do so...

Karma Means "Life is my Making", I am 100% responsible for my Inner Experience. -Sadhguru..."I don''t want Your Dreams to come True, I want something to come true for You beyond anything You could dream of!!" - Sadhguru

@BojackHorseman, if you start thinking of religion as a strict moral system, it will start to make sense.

I think if many humans get together and do something in the name of God the chances of God doing something multiply. So worshipping god with other humans is better than doing it alone. When people get together they need rules.

If objective reality is defined by subjective experiences if you have 500 people acting like there is something in a room that isnt there the chances that the thing is in the room go up. This is how society created you God just attached the creation to a body because when people did this they were looking directly at the body. People look at the babies eyes (a 3d object) and talk to it and God creates you right there. When people do this  its actually consciousness doing this and reality folds into itself and acts like something is there.

No body will point this out, but forget about religion for a sec and all those interpretations of it and if you should join and blah blah.

These two sentences right here is the key. "I'm going through a dark time right now" and "I'm utterly stupid and ignorant" Yes the I AM is playing this out. It is in a dark time because it declared itself stupid and ignorant. It has no choice but to dream up things that will make it appear stupid and ignorant and appear to be in dark times. That's the energy force you're manipulating that carries a certain frequency with it and that is what you'll experience no matter where you go. Church and religion ain't gonna help that. Change the perception of yourself and it doesn't matter what religion you choose because they are not truth. Not even Spirituality, The I AM is truth and only within the dream of consciousness that is a game being played out within your awareness.

What you declare after the words I AM and believe to be true will become your reality.

They can be a positive force in individuals and society. A few benefits of partaking in a religious tradition that you may not have considered:

  • 1. Accountability (namely honoring your commitments)
  • 2. Beauty experienced (rituals, services, the transcendent)
  • 3. Community
  • 4. Divinity (discovery/encounter)
  • 5. Encouragement
  • 6. Forgiveness
  • 7. Gratitude
  • 8. Helping out at large with food banks / soup kitchens / charity shops

Religion is, good people joining with good people though you need to be aware of its limitations and short-comings and should not see it as a panacea for the journey to God; the only way to do that is delving at length deep within

Suppose you wanna climb a dangerous mountain or arrive by road to a distant place.

If you don't know how to do it you'll need a guide, a school of climbing and so on.

If you know how to arrive you'll do it by yourself.

That is the meaning of Religion, to provide such help and its own set of traps.

That's what egoic humans have done with the sacred truths revealed by mystics.

One when studies comparative religion discovers very quickly the immense abism between the common man and the saints of the given Religion.

You make up your mind, of course. You'll judge it from your own paradigm, which you're unaware of, and you'll judge the new paradigm in terms of the old and assess it according to (probably) pragmatism. Which mean how useful is this religion to get me out of this dark time that I'm facing. The paradigm or tool that does the job will become your status quo and the rest will be discarded. In the best case scenario, otherwise you'll suffocate and rotten yourself in your little fish tank.

Probably you are going through a personal time where your old shelf is too little and you are searching for a bigger shelf. That's my interpretation

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty. We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Virtuous and Conscious. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life God is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, ... Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

Davino has the right of it. Religions start from an individual or group who becomes genuinely enlightened by skill in mysticism. The methodology for how to accomplish it is recorded and passed on. Over time, the original intention of the religion is diluted to the point where most practitioners no longer realize what spirituality really is.

It's easy to make fun of religions based on the modern examples set by the masses, but it'd be a better move to trace back the religion to its origins, and to the true message it was trying to communicate.

They are possibilities.

If you see plenty of evidence that religion is fake then you don't really want to play it.

People with a high level of consciousness usually don't prefer to play Abrahamic religions, or end up playing them with a higher level of complexity.

We are on the same page.

Even Leo commonly falls into the trap of strawmaning religions

@Schizophonia High Consciousness individuals that are deeply interested in Religious Understanding usually end up with what is called "Personal Religion" or Syncretism.

Religions are something positive in many ways. You are not going to tell everyone to undertake an inner journey of years to realize their absolute nature, so you tell them that when they die they will not disappear but rather they will be one with God, or they will be reincarnated, or something, which will be better or worse depending on your level of density/egoism, and don't despair if this life gets horrible, it's just a stage. At least it serves as mental comfort, the other option, total atheism, creates a lot of anxiety.

*spoiler alert*

Leo, who is an imaginary pen pal mistaken to be a real person, makes an appearance in Episode 5 of @BojackHorseman.

And just like that, you should realize that all of religion made up.
