Elephants used during religious festivals in India.

Using elephants in religious processions should be considered unethical. I have no idea why it's allowed in India. Stage Blue unethical practice even though it's religious or considered sacred.

Ohh gosh, this is tragic to continue to see happening. You can see in the split seconds before the elephant ran amok, there were people wearing colorful outfits running towards the elephant's direction from behind, which likely spooked the hell out of it

Its not about what happens. It's about what shouldn't happen. Ethics are universal in my opinion and not relativistic to culture. I wasn't talking about moral relativity, it does differ to a certain extent as someone in a particular culture might think that eating animal meat is morally wrong, that's understandable. Yet some fundamental ethics are true regardless of cultural norms and cultural morals. For example human rights. So if animals are tortured that cannot be considered a cultural thing. Animals used in circuses for example. That's wrong and banned in many countries. Why should animal torture be acceptable in the name of religion then?

Sadly not.

Development, culture, environment, experiences, etc. While it's true Ethics often refers to a community, communities can be just a few hundred people.
You'll always waste your time arguing ethics with individuals. Unless they are showing some openness to listening to you. Their ethics are their ethics, and yours are yours, so the premise is going to be different depending on who is surrounding them to reinforce these ethics or which communities they are a part of.

I just appeal directly to their security, safety, and financial motivations; usually because its far more effective, and only when they ask. Example: I've formulated vegan arguments when people ask me why I am a vegan, that tell them directly why they are worse off financially because we have so much land diverted to cows and sheep, in a county where nobody can afford land or rates. Nobody has anything much to say apart from nodding their head.

Bro got more compassion for the elephants in india than the actual people in india

Also consider you've contributed to tens of thousands of animal deaths in your lifetime. Lots of people would consider that a universal ethical violation. India also has the highest % of vegetarians in the world. Maybe you could learn some things from them about treating animals

Good to know that you love cruelty! No need to call me a bro. I'm a girl. Have manners.

@Buck Edwards how do you feel about indians? Write them down. Those are your projections

There was nothing in the post that was mentioned about Indians. You're making it about them. The post is about elephant cruelty. You project a lot yourself.

It's because of accusations like this that issues can never be discussed. If a certain things about certain cultures is discussed it's immediately deemed negative or racist.

Hands up in the air. End of discussion.

@Buck Edwards you literally called Tommy robinson, head of an anti brown fascist group (literally), your hero (literally). Maybe those accusations are right. Just a little? 🤔

India has rich fauna consisting of lions, tigers, leopards, bears, elephants, rhinoceros, peacocks, eagles  and so on. I don't think any other country possess such a rich biological resource of fauna in the world. That they exist even now is due to the reverence towards nature in Indian culture.

You can see peacocks and cows wandering in Indian streets due to their protected status.

The biggest threat to elephants is through poaching for their tusks which usually means their death as well and this is still a serious threat in countries having elephants.

Elephants used in temple festivals are usually cared for and protected and there are traditional veterinary clinics and other resources available for them. There has been new laws and regulations with regard to their safety as well due to activism by animal rights activists .

However the increasing heat due to global warming is leading to higher stress amongst such domesticated elephants leading to rampages at times. So there is greater focus on their cooling by water and providing shelter for them and other aids.

Technology has also come as an aid and robots have started replacing elephants in some temples as well.

Elephant cruelty is a thing. But you don't have to ban them from festivals.

There are too many vested interests in here for me to honestly comment.
