Man...did you even read the thread he talked about his problem with fibromyalgia?

There were pretty serious answers. A lot of them.

You just say that without doing any research.

But were they truly emotionally supportive?

I did and not a single person didnt show emotional support through the advice it were all logical and to the point like what house he should buy, yeah cool but one needs more than that..no seriousness in the tone of speaking about it.

Ah that's what you meant with serious answers.

Yeah maybe giving him some emotional support would have saved him. Hope this forum was not his only reach out for help.

This could be a clue as to why he did it.

There was probably something else he was not saying on the forum.. like perhaps he needed help to survive.

I know what fibromyalgia is like, at the worst times you really have trouble doing regular tasks but you still look normal as hell to people so almost every doctor will gaslight you and suggest you're lying.

I have been gaslit so many times by bad doctors that I have little to no motivation to try again.

When I tried to get some kind of disability support again I had trouble finding a single doctor who would take me seriously.

The government/disability department also doesn't take it as seriously.

My symptoms get worse when the stress of survival becomes seemingly an impossible task so it's like a negative feedback loop. It improves when I have some backup.

You know the funny thing is? At best disability support will give you something like 1000 bucks a month which isn't enough unless you lived in a tent or van. And even then the people in charge try to nickel and dime, deny the people who really need it.

And this is in Canada one of the better places, who knows what was happening in his country..

I'm just lucky coz I currently have some support. But if I didn't I'd be almost just as screwed.

That doesn't seem too serious.

OCD can be pretty serious. I have a form of it; obsessions are so strong in OCD that it can dramatically impact one's quality of life and mental health.

So I understand how it can cause suicide.

When something doesn't go right (most of the time, just a tiny detail in the eyes of anybody else), I get very strong reactions and obsessive thoughts about it. I can't distract myself because I am completely consumed by my thoughts. They are extremely intrusive and won't go away. I stop living normally for a few hours or days, until the thoughts and emotions slowly pass.

I resist changing my mind or using a technique to calm my obsession so strongly because it feels so wrong. It’s really hard to understand, even for me, because this is not who I am most of the time; it’s my mind and extreme stubbornness controlling me.

I think that I have a very deep aspiration to realize something meaningful in this life and that I am particularly strong and capable of enduring prolonged suffering. If I weren't, I would have already commited suicide. OCD obsessions are very hard to live with and often come with depression… for good reasons.

So from my experience, OCD can cause serious suffering and lead to suicide if not taken care of, especially in times of crisis.

I did not expect this post to generate so much interest. Apparently, no one has chatted with him personally. In any case, thank you all for your interest.

Because Buba has partly shared his story here, I want to briefly talk about him and bring the discussion to a close.

A few years ago, a man named Akilesh Ayyar made a post on this forum, in which he reported that he had reached enlightenment and was open to answering any questions.

Buba read all the comments, including the recommendations from Akilesh Ayyar. According to him, the first step toward enlightenment should be psychoanalysis. Through psychoanalysis, one can get rid of their symptoms or at least experience some relief.

So, that's what Buba did. He started with psychoanalysis. During the psychoanalysis, it turned out that he had repressed homosexuality. He couldn’t come to terms with this "fact" and just wanted to avoid and get rid of his homosexuality. You can clearly see in his earlier posts that he even searched for doctors and medications that could "cure" him of homosexuality.

This became a major obsession. For the past four years, he had suicidal thoughts. We were so used to hearing about these suicidal thoughts that we couldn’t take them seriously anymore. Whenever he spoke about such things, I always thought, "typical Buba."

This year, in February I believe, he carried something heavy for one of his friends, which caused the pain from his hernia to worsen. He consulted many doctors, each giving him different diagnoses: hernia, protrusion, etc.

He thought: why did I carry something heavy while having a hernia? Only schizophrenics do such things. I’ve been in psychoanalysis for four years, but I still couldn't stop myself from doing that.

This became a major obsession for him, thinking that he had ruined his life with his own hands.

And in the end, he took his own life.

No one was to blame.

But I miss him so much that I can't describe it.

Therefore, Leo Gura, no psychological problem is "not too serious." People do a lot of things for really stupid reasons. You don’t need to be mentally ill for that, because people are simply controlled by their feelings, thoughts, etc. People lose their functionality, burden their relationships, make themselves mentally and physically sick, and even kill others and themselves over these "not too serious" reasons.

If you also have such friends, acquaintances, or family members, please give them the support they need, even if they don’t verbally ask for it. Today could be their last day.

It’s not, I’ve seen four others at least.

We need to compile a common issues resources page or something. I never saw his posts so I couldn’t recommend any links. I’ve seen other posts where I know a solution but the user is long gone.

Did you mean: "serious emotional issues" section?

No need to stress that mental illness is serious.

@Leo Gura I thought so too before, but actually OCD is one of the most difficult anxiety conditions to treat, in many cases it requires higher doses of SSRIs (supratherapeutic doses, higher than the recommended maximum dose) as compared to other anxiety disorders like GAD, PTSD or Panic disorder. There is also a specific form of therapy called exposure and response prevention therapy which is the first line of treatment for OCD. It can be a very debilitating condition, where people in extreme cases can start to struggle with doing very basic self-care tasks, as they get often stuck in repetitive thought loops and behavioral patterns, repeating things over and over and over again, it's like an embodiment of that saying (analysis by paralysis)

It's paralysis by analysis.

Oh yeah, I remember him now.

So he had a serious health condition.

It's sad that he gave in so soon. I was hopeful he would find some solutions. He only had the condition for a few months.

He had been on the forum for a long time - I remember him suffering from OCD long before that.

I know what might cure me but it's not up to me.. is if more people reached my state. I know that sounds like a baseless claim but that's just what spirit tells me and as well through brief moments when someone was able to share their light with me I experience improvements.

Anyway, I'm doing fine mostly. The point was just about speaking for people with these "weird/invisible conditions" and the kind of hurdle they face.

Basically if almost no doctor can either help you or take you seriously and there's also no support/assistance for basic survival even temporarily, yeah you could see how that pushes someone to become suicidal..
