ADHD Prescription Medicine Alternatives

19 posts in this topic

I am struggling with ADHD and would like to try prescription meds for it. Unfortunately, I don't have enough money at the moment to afford multiple sessions with a psychiatrist to a get a prescription (and then to visit them regularly afterwards to renew it).

On top of that, I had a rather bad experience with the psychiatrists that I did talk to.

I was wondering if there is an alternative route that I could take.

Like a drug that I could get without a prescription. Or if there is some kind of gray market for ADHD meds, like how there are "research chemicals" for psychedelics.

I know that sourcing is not allowed here, but I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

I took ADHD meds for years. They do far more harm than good in my experience. Look into dopamine deficiency. If that resonates, try taking cold showers in the morning, meditating, and cutting out screen time, junk food, porn, and other highly stimulating behaviors. If I need a boost, I drink some green tea.

@Jannes well I usually felt great when I was on them (except for one which gave me a fever and made me feel ill). It’s the come down that’s the problem. When the drug is wearing off, I felt like an emotional mess. I felt antisocial and didn’t have the energy to do anything and had strong cravings for stimulation. Basically all the symptoms of domaine deficiency were magnified as I withdrew from the drug.

@StripedGiraffe oh damn. I have taken relatively small quantities of adhd meds so far. I have the theory that on adhd meds it becomes unnecessary to cope with the adhd affects so I behave more normally and when I am off the meds I am confused because I integrated a more normal behavior which doesnt suit adhd.

But it could also be withdrawl symptoms or a combination of both.

If you have adhd, then you need stimulants

@StripedGiraffe thank you for sharing. I am now also thinking that I should get my lifestyle in order before I start playing with different substances.

@Ulax yeah, I know. Not sure which ones are the best though.

i've had some success with caffeine but I don't know if it's sustainable.

Getting your lifestyle in order can be tough on adhd. Right now I want to use meds to get my lifestyle in order and from there I might be able get off them. I like to have them as an option.

It’s just an amino acid and shoukd be good for a bit of dopamine.

Some say adhd is a dopamine issue.

Anyway it should be taken on an empty stomach or with some sugar maybe, not with protein.

Check Semax/ Cortexin (has some ADHD studies) -  should regenerate the brain but a bit hard to get by outside of Europe

You are right, it is the other way around, first you get your ADHD in order than the lifestyle falls into place

I just don't want to mess with harder drugs until I see what results I can get with just healthy diet, sleep, exercise, meditation, and limiting internet addiction
