How do you get good at speaking on camera?

I’m interested in making YouTube videos that explain and demonstrate various mind and body exercises. Because I’ve been going to the gym and lifting weights now for almost two years and have built a nice aesthetic physique from consistent training and healthy eating and combining this with meditation exercises too which I realized turned out to significantly enhance my progress, and most people probably don’t know about this.

But I’ve noticed that speaking on camera to share my knowledge is much harder than it looks because I can’t say anything without having a complete script pre-written beforehand. But then I just sound robotic reading directly off a script like a news reporter, and if I try to go without a script then my mind just goes blank and I don’t know what to say.

Great direction to head!

Everyone sucks to some degree when they start.

My perspective would be to make crappy videos! why would your first 1-20 be good?

Try reading from a script, try it without, try writing cliff notes, post the videos, move on, keep learning.

Practically though, if I am reading from a script it usually takes 4-6 recordings before I land on one that is good enough. momentum is gained, the articulation becomes easier, looking at the script less necessary.

Have you released any videos yet?

All the best!

This just takes practice, and I would say speaking truth. It’s harder to speak if you are speaking nonsense you don’t believe in.

Yes it takes practice. This means that before starting with these videos you can spent 10 minutes a day recording yourself talking about whatever, without any script. Imagine you're talking to somebody, to a close friend who's asking help perhaps. When you start feeling more confident then start with videos with the connect you want to talk about.

It requires turning on your cringe inhibitors

Or tuning them off and pushing through it

I'm curious about the mind going blank part. Maybe your expectations are too high that it leaves you paralyzed? Maybe lowering the bar to saying what you feel comfortable with explaining might be helpful

Shoot 500 videos.

Aim to be 1% better each time.
