How to decide whether to take prescribed medicine?

6 posts in this topic

Hurt my lat muscle in the gym.

Went to the doctor has pain was still present after two months, and the doctor gave me a prescription, telling me to take it for a while.

It's a prescribed medicine, but I'm not sure why it was given to me.

How do you decide whether to take prescribed medicine or not? To what extent should I be skeptical? I want to know how to balance trust and skepticism in this scenario

Research the mechanism of action. What does it affect in the body for it to work as intended? Does it do this efficiently? Side effects?

Is the prescription your taking healing the injury? is it just masking the pain?

Is there anecdotal evidence online, good accounts, bad accounts?

If you're not planning on taking your Tramadol, feel free to send it my way! :P

“Did you ever say Yes to a single joy? O my friends, then you said Yes to all woe as well. All things are chained and entwined together, all things are in love; if ever you wanted one moment twice, if ever you said: ‘You please me, happiness! Abide, moment!’ then you wanted everything to return!” - Friedrich Nietzsche

You need to gradually work your way up to such high dosages.

Also: stay away from opiates! They make you feel way too good to be taken casually.

Unless you're very experienced with drugs and have a solid reason for avoiding regular use, you're just setting yourself up for an opiate addiction.

Yes.

I’m not into opiates and drugs in general.

The only drugs i sometimes (even rarely) use are psychedelics and cigarettes.
