Yes, sometimes it can happen. When they smell vulnerability they go for the jugular. Some have the nurturing and caring instinct stronger than that but usually you'll get both at different ratios.

You won't always be able to take care of yourself, that is the rude realisation of being sick.

I can handle every challenge but being ill takes the life out of me and I can't even help myself. It takes a very determined man to keep surviving alone in the midst of illness. I respect a lot individuals who are able to do that, as I struggle a lot when I'm sick. In a way, it seems as if all the personal work I've done in my life flies out the window and I'm left feeling shitty alone in my room.

A friend of mine has his own business and many times has to keep working even when very ill, as he has to teach in his English academy. 

It's a toughness and perseverance I am still developing; the strength of our ancestors to survive in the old times.
