If this is widespread then it is seen as alarming and distressful. A symptom of some sort of social disease.

Using your analogy above, a lot of people in north America and Europe believe your statement above is true if you were to replace the words "homosexuality" and "LGBTQ" with the word "Religion".....

Those people believe having a child is a given. Not wanting a child is a disease, regardless if it's widespread or not. They are using the fear of humans going extinct to justify their hatred of people who can't or don't want to bring a child into the world. Also, it's not that they really care about the child.
