Being Online Makes You Less Conscious?

11 posts in this topic

I have to be honest, every time I get online these days it’s like my mental health and happiness go down by 15-30%. I noticeably feel worse and everything feels darker.

Maybe it’s my own fault for clicking on click bait things but I also feel the algorithm is tailored for drama and doom. I click on one stupid video and my feed is flooded for weeks with them. I click on 20 wise podcasts and if I don’t keep up with it they disappear.

i know the internet is what you make it and you can use it grow or devolve. But god damn they make it hard.

All these videos about Simp Betas, public pranking, Israel war, the horrific political situation, war and countries prepping for war, the dystopian state of parts of America, fetanol crises, public freakouts and fights and car accidents, It truly just looks like Armageddon and hell out there

Again my algorithm used to not look like this but recently I went into some of these things, just out of curiosity and my algorithm went wild

On the contrary, if I turn my phone off, grab a book and coffee, walk down to the creek and just read and people watch. I feel this overwhelming peace and love, this connection to God

This is my claim here that I am detoxing these things. I’m taking a break from the world and it’s drama, in truth, none of these things ever affect my day to day and I’m better off just not knowing about it.

Call me ignorant or uninformed or whatever but I simply don’t give a shit anymore about human drama. Humans are like children in terms of their evolution and wisdom, nature and my own consciousness is much more profound. I just want to live my life in peace. Anything major I’m sure I’ll hear about. But this doom scrolling and all is like eating junk food or even worse.

I wrote this as I’m sure some of you guys might resonate. See this as your sign. Phone addiction is definitely a thing.

Random add on is that I feel compassion for these platforms. One on hand they are a business which needs to survive, if YouTube for example started only feeding high conscious material, all their users would go to Tik tok. At the same time it’s at a point where they are beyond just being a business, the consciousness of humanity is in their hands, people use these platforms for news, and info on how to live and perceive reality. They do have a moral responsibility at this point, it’s beyond just surviving as a business, but surviving as a species

much love

I understand.

To add to what you're saying, I'm always in conflict with ignoring what radicals online have to say vs engaging them. On one hand ignoring them is easier and saves you the headache and time, but on the other hand you feel an obligation or duty that compels you to say something.

@gambler do you have a gambling addiction?

Double whammy if it’s online gambling.

I have never in my entire life gambled. I love the structure of the word itself xD

Yeah.

Feel the same.

I'm learning how to use technology again.

These days people are stuck on YT/Social Media.

They don't explore new possibilities, websites.

Being online is a great tool, but it's so easy to misuse. And you have to be online if you want to survive and understand the modern world.

Of course, if you spend 8+ hours a day online you're miserable. You need sunlight.

But deeper than that, being online unconsciously trains your mind to be a consumer of information. Consuming information is great, but you need to digest it and mold it into insights in order for it to actually develop your mind. You need to actively put yourself in a cycle of consuming and digesting online content, too much of one or the other in ineffective. One reason I participate on this forum is to do a bit of both. Writing responses like this a form of digesting information.

I do bi-weekly podcasts for my industry just do digest what I have learned and sharpen my thinking. The self-promotion and opportunities that come from that are just a bonus.

Quit bitching about low-consciousness stuff. If it wasn't for that, you wouldn't consider yourself highly conscious.😜 Gotta have something to compare to.

I know what you mean though. Doesn't bother me because yt doesn't recommend them as I don't really watch much of it. Sometimes, but only when I need a break from the Spiritual stuff. They are more addicting as you can imagine how the mind loves drama. One night I think I spent 2hrs straight watching police chases and convenience stores and gas station shootings. Oh my, plenty of that stuff on yt because off all the cameras out there. Police are even solving crimes by posting that stuff. At the end they're asking for people to call if they've seen the shooters. So, it's actually a way to solve crime. Only once in awhile I may watch stuff like that though.

Big news will pop up every now and then and I may watch a few singing shows or cooking channels. Other than that, I'm like a podcast person and will watch them on the regular. I don't watch TV so yt is my thing. I watch mostly conscious stuff or listen to great audio books while cooking, walking or cleaning. I have a decorating game I play too.

Not acting / living with integrity makes you less conscious. are you acting out of integrity with your internet usage? Using the internet doesn’t inherently make you less conscious.
