If voting didn't matter than the UK wouldn't have left the EU. Brexit was terrible for business and was the result of nationalistic and xenophobic fervor.

Not true at all. You can see in states like Venezuela or I mean Russia/China/North Korea/Iran, etc the true meaning of what happens when you can't vote.

Democracy is a hard thing and group consensus is basically impossible but our voices are heard and have impact in western democracies.

To add to this, if voting didn't matter the Republican Party wouldn't be engaged in widespread voter suppression and gerrymandering.
