Trick to put contact lenses in?

18 posts in this topic

Went to the optometrist to get contacts today and practised putting them in for 45 mins no success, getting them out myself after he got them in was fine.
Tried another several times at home but still unsuccessful. Is there a trick when you have a strong reflex?

It’s like learning to ride a bike. You’ll instantly get it (in) once you figure it out. Trust.

What you went thru also happened with me.

I only wear contacts, but I am transitioning to using both due to a diagnosed dry eye condition.

@Schizophonia A lot better since thanks, the past three weeks was just partying, making friends and dating.

There actually is an important trick:

The trick is to place the contact lens on the very tip of your finger, not on the pad. If you place it on the pad it will not leave your finger.

Another trick is to keep your eyeball looking straight ahead. Don't turn your eyeball away. Look forward constantly.

If you do both of those it's super easy.

I use contact lenses since 2016.

I have keratoconus.

Put them on the sclera and move gently to the cornea with your finger. (Wash your hands :D)

To take them out, use a contact lens suction cup.

I got lasik- I still don't have the best vision, I will probably need glasses again soon. Also I got side effects like dry eyes, light sensitivity, halos, etc.

@Leo Gura Thanks, I had a big phobia feeling my eye, let alone putting something in it. It gets easier, though it took me two hours today 😅 looking straight ahead helps!

Do you wear them everyday? Any downsides besides the cost?

Yes. Downside is it’s a waste of plastic.

@Yimpa Fair enough.

This whole learning process is such a pain in the ass, how many hours does one have to spend putting them in and taking them out? I'd rather get a second circumcision.

I struggled with this initially, too, I found that the trick was just to let the lens come into contact with the eye and then the eye would 'take' it, whereas trying to force it into the eye wouldn't work.

It's cake. Takes 1 second to put them in.
