John Maynard Keynes wasn't a charlatan. He gave FDR brilliant ideas to help save the US economy and the rest of the global economy from the Great Depression.

The Federal Reserve has always used economists. Hell, every big bank in the world has used their expertise as well.

What other experts are we supposed to listen to or learn from?

Economy is not even a science, it pretends to be one by sometimes using what seem like mathematical language and equations, but it is not. They only look like that. The economy doesn't work like mathematics, the human factor, and others are intrinsic to it, so you can't make it work like an exact science, only dress it like it. 

I'm not saying it's not worth studying it, but the first work is to cut the bullshit, quite a hard one, because it's full of it.
