The French stave off another major extreme right-wing threat to their country

6 posts in this topic

The far-right French party was supposed to win in the 2024 French legislative election over past the weekend. Yet, it turned out that the left-wing and centrist parties, soundly defeated the radical right-wing party. The left-wing party surprisingly became the real victor of this election!

Solidarité.

Perhaps a foreshadowing of things to come in November for the US.

For the idealists out there, it's worth noting that it required cooperation between centrists and leftists for this to happen.

The problem is that because no party has an absolute majority they will face tons of dysfunction and gridlock, France has serious declining issues so the left and center parties who have a higher amount of seats will be blamed for it, allowing the far right to have a much better chance in the next election since they can campaign on that.

However, until France understands why this happens, about half the country will still get pissed off and some will still side with the right and far right and they'll keep having to deal with this because of their liberal blinders.

Now guess the one thing which created this situation.

RN is still the leading party in France, far ahead of LFI and Renaissance :)

Mélenchon is nobody and nothing of his program will be applied, it is cheeky to gloat over this “victory”

The devil is in the details.

Whilst the New Popular Front is the biggest parliamentary bloc, they don't have an absolute majority. This means they're likely to have to make a coalition Government with the Centrist Liberal Bloc, Ensemble, and most of their likely agenda won't be passed.
