Mark my words, the Trump immunity ruling, which officially places the US president above the law and the US Constitution, will go down as the worst ruling since the Dread Scott decision, where the SCOTUS ruled that black people were not citizens and thus not protected by the Bill of Rights - leading directly to the US civil war.

People who are downplaying the importance of this ruling need only imagine Biden sending a team of Navy Seals to assassinate Trump, since the ruling places the US president outside of the rule of law. Biden could claim that because assassinating political opponents was carried out in the execution of his presidential duties it's by definition legal - and thanks to this decision, he'd be correct.

It's an insane ruling that effectively ends up US democracy, even if it's actual effects are gradual. The salt in the wound is that five of the size justices that voted to end democracy were themselves appointed by presidents who got into office despite losing the popular vote.

The deep state has even more power than the president and even more immunity and secrecy that allows them to carry shady shit all thorough the world and even inside the US.  In the hands of the wrong person, it can go sideways really quick.

The 'Deep State', in the way Trump and his cohorts use the term, is a right-wing conspiracy theory - a dishonest justification for giving an autocratic strongman dictatorial powers. Period.

What's being disingenuously referred to with this conspiracy theory is the administrative apparatus of federal, non-political employees that literally every modern country in world uses and depends upon.

It's the 21st century equivalent of the 'stabbed in the back' conspiracy theory, which blamed Jews and socialists for Germany's loss in World War 1, which the Nazis skillfully used to seize power 

Stop spreading this BS, it's antithetical to a Conscious Politics forum.

I’m a lefty. If by “deep state” you mean career prosecutors and law enforcement agents who have their own esprit de corps and agenda, which is often anti-democratic, you can’t seriously dispute that this exists. It got much stronger after 9/11. 
 

If we could proceed in a more scientific way, instead of making broad generalizations or constructing straw men to demonize, the discussion will be a lot more productive.

@DocWatts  Just because the right adds more drama and flare to it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. 

Some conspiracy theories are legit. The deep state is a group of about 50-150 people who have unlimited powers and anonymity. There could be disagreements and differences among these people, but they are usually ideologically aligned and liberal in their outlook. 

These are normal people like you and me, not aliens or lizards or something.

And yes, the deep state exists in all states of the world. But they are not as powerful as in US for obvious reasons. These people work above the law with plausible deniability over anything and everything.

We have many examples of people in government admitting to breaking laws and nothing happened to them

That's not immunity.

Many poor people break the law and nothing happens to them. The law doesn't get everyone every time.

Officials in each branch of government (executive, legislative, judicial) should have limited immunity to avoid political prosecution from the other branches.

Trump is now distancing himself from Project 2025 because he knows that if mainstream voters catch wind of this it might cost him the election. Because the optics of it are so bad.

Trump wants to have it both ways: to have the MAGA idiots believe in Project 2025 while denying it publically to swing voters so his admin doesn't look crazy. But if he enters office he will use every bit of Project 2025 to gain and lock in power for himself. Of course Trump doesn't actually believe in crazy Christian Nationalist ideology. But he will use it to grab power.

They're not mutually exclusive, having a life purpose doesn't necessitate sticking your head in the sand about the society and culture in which you're living.
