Presidential Debate + RFK

Newsom is by far the strongest, most presidential guy that Dems have. I'm quite confident he will be president within the next 12 years. He is uniquely talented. The only thing I worry with him is some kind of sex scandal.

Overall, the Dems just don't have strong charismatic leaders. They are either batshit woke leftists or middling professional lawyer types. Newsom is a good middle road there.

Biden advanced age is very noticeable, and he aspires to run a powerful country, it's a big problem, and not only aesthetically. Trump is not much younger but doesn't look and move like a mummy, at least. Even Bernie Sanders, who is older than Biden, seems to have more clarity and sharpness yet.

I would still vote for Biden, his social and economic policies are better and he is the lesser of two evils internationally. Although he is not good, mostly about Palestine, he's burned himself with that, and Netanyahu, Israel, and AIPAC will support the candidate they prefer anyway, which is Trump. Not like Biden isn't a totally convinced supporter of Israel, but all those awful war crimes in broad light stink too bad even for him, so I think he should have been more critical about at least those aspects for his own good. Either way, it's an issue he would have received burns no matter what. Ukraine is another hot potato that didn't go his and the USA's way, and this is on him.

Newsom would have been a much better candidate. He has decided to stay loyal to Biden, as the old man didn't step down. Kamala Harris is awful, so uncharismatic, she would be crushed as Hillary Clinton was. Buttigieg is better than her, at least he can speak coherently and return the punches he receives from Republicans in real-time, but I don't know, I don't think he can carry all the wagons Democrats need. Newsom is the best, he debated DeSantis for fun, and he did well.

I think Trump has really thrown a massive spanner into American politics, the only reason the dems feel like their only option is Biden is because of Trump. If the republicans put out a new younger candidate, theres no way the Dems wouldve stuck with Biden. I feel sorry for Biden because from his perspective hes just defending his country from Trumps madness, but hes obviously not in a fit state to do it, it feels like your ageing grandad just trying to get his words out.

On both sides there will be people that will never vote for trump or never vote biden, regardless of this debate, so its whether the undecideds get swung either way. But genuinely i cant believe the state of this election, im in the UK as well which has been a shitshow the last few years, but America is on a whole other level.

At least with Trump in office it will be comedic to see how MAGA fans spin every move he makes as some aikido move to 'drain the swamp' or 'fight the deep state.' The same crowd that rightly criticise Democratic drones strikes and interventions will slap a MAGA stickers on the same actions under Trumps oversight and claim it as some stroke of genius. Empires gonna empire.

It's genuinely painful to see an old man unable to keep it together and struggle on stage. Anyone who's had a loved one suffer from mental slowdown will feel for him. That only says more about the political structure than it does the candidates - its a revealing ass crack in the facade of American democracy. Only the most trusted will be allowed to steward the titanic ship of a fading empire, we'r just having fun re-arranging seats on the deck and playing musical chairs.

We'll see....

So far progressives don't like him at all and virtually every conservative and Republican in the country see him as one of their top enemies.

He also needs to show the people that he is a bold liberal or progressive willing to fight like hell against the established interests and present liberalism or progressivism as a broadly appealing ideology like the way the Roosevelt presidents did. I worry that he may the kind of corporate politician who doesn't really have it in him to do that.

Yes, it is essential that we have a presidential candidate that doesn't come off as too radical for the public. However, I've come to realize lately that if a Democratic president comes off as being too non-partisan and too conciliatory, then he will end up playing right into the hands of the right-wing and the Republicans. Also, the people will eventually feel like he's another traditional politician who promised us "hope and change," but in the end let us down. That was the kind of mistake Obama made looking back.

Newsom strikes that balance perfectly.

Of course the far leftists will hate on him because they are children. They hate anyone who isn't a socialist. And the right-wing will surely invent a way to demonize anyone on the left regardless of who it is. So that doesn't concern me at all.

The trend is for fascism to rise and wars to come about, social unrest and hate to rise still, we haven't had enough war or suffering yet.

Just the nonsense I'll have to listen to from Americans for the next four years will be unbearable, and I am already heavily suppressed in the current dynamic responding to it. We'll export maybe 10-20% of that fantasy here in UK. We'll have another bout of vaccine deniers in England or, more likely, something equally stupid like the homeless being blamed for housing prices. People will start discussing weather machines under someone's bed are causing climate change again.

It's just general conspiracy brain idiocy and another round of rightwing suppression; maybe it'll be enough to start some severe counterculture leftism, but I don't think we are there yet. It's a pity we couldn't hold together NATO at this critical time, but the writing on the wall for America to shift fascism has been there for a long time, and Europe only has itself to blame if it's not armed sufficiently after two years of Russian aggression to stand against BRICS.

I thought they'd dose Biden up for the debates with something like Alpha Brain, and Trump's charges would knock him down a peg; sadly, no such luck, a worse debate than I thought.

Biden is out. What a disaster. Well worth just watching the first 30 minutes to see why he is over. Even the first 15 minutes. Wtf. Thats the American president. lol.

You know it’s over when all the left leaning media are all saying he cant run anymore. 😀

Gavin Newsom is the most likely candidate if they throw Kamala under the bus, which is highly likely, as she is hopeless.

My personal choice would be Bernie as i love him, but i think Newsom is too strong and Bernie is too old now.

Trump would get my vote still, unless Bernie is on.. Trump was great in the debate.

feel the Bern.. 🤡

CNN hosts were good.

Oooph, that was rough to watch.

Of course, if Biden were a corpse he'd still be the better choice over Mango Mussolini, but for the typical low-information Voter who's on the fence, it was a bad look.

Considering that the election is likely to be decided by less than a 100k votes in a handful of swing states, something like this could be enough to lose the election.

On the other hand, Trump's criminal conviction has been hurting him, his sentencing in just a few weeks. Republicans have been doing terribly in Senate and House elections, and it's anybody's guess what might happen between now and November.

So it's reasonable to assume that the election is still a toss up.

Also, Biden did many times better than Trump did in terms of substance, truth, and logic.

100%. I was surprised by Biden's performance despite his cognitive state. He did well, but sounded like a feeble old man. He's gonna have a really hard time winning over voters.

Trump just did the usual... deflect, lie, and point fingers.

Remember when I repeatedly said debates between candidates were required to test their competence? I do. That would have avoided this mess. It would have shown Biden was not capable long before it became critical. It's undemocratic to elect leaders without debates, and ultimately self-defeating in this case.

But did Newsom do a good job as Governor of California?

So USA which has like 320 million people cannot find 1 good guy to run for? They have just 2 parties. How hard is it to find 1 single guy that is good?

I think it is just an excuse because Biden probably appeals to certain agendas or narratives.

I would not be suprised if he is just a front man and other people do the actual policies, so this status quo of Biden being in power suits them.

Newsom will solidify the downfall of this nation... it is not hard to understand why.

Newsom's political optics are so good. He really should have ran this cycle.

They shut down the primary, he couldn’t

Newsom only has 37% popularity
