Is life better without masturbation?

Meaning; you make the conscious decision to not jerk off and instead focus that sexual energy on other things like a creative project, reading etc.

Some opinions I found interesting from Reddit:

Listen to or create music. Try chanting or drumming. Get up and dance, feel the movement of your body. Go to a local market and smell the different herbs and foods, explore them through touch and taste. If you get that sensual urge to take action, do so. Get "horny" for cooking or painting or whatever happens to come naturally to you.

For what it's worth, I don't think masturbation is bad. However I do think it's commendable that you want to explore this energy further, because so often it does get put in the box of "sex", when in reality it's so much more than that. Sensual energy is intimate and intoxicating, and sex is the most obvious way to channel it, but it is by no means the limit.

It’s very easy ; abstain from sex or masturbation, and instead focus on your work or your dream. I mean, there is no magic to it. I’ve been using this for a very long time, and this is how I can read 70/80 books a year, writing a book, while being a student. This is a sacrifice you have to make though. You have to be disciplined, and of course be patient. That’s it my friend. Peace !

To be clear, I am NOT talking about creaming over Insta / Snap whatever, I don't do that, I'm sure that's bad for you. I'm talking about just jerking off, I don't even watch porn often. I'm also not talking about the bad alternative of self-shaming for falling back. So perhaps the question then:

In your opinion, with NO self-shame attached and no dogma attached to it whatsoever, is it better to abstain from masturbation altogether? Assuming you're actively working on your LP. Maybe I should start a 30-day challenge again for myself and keep you guys posted, it definitely depends per each person.

Edit: I say this now because I jerked off last night, but sometimes you have to tame the beast. I get so much boiled up passion / anger whatever it's called if I don't do it. So I'm unsure.

I’m « against » nofap because it’s just like drugs, the tacit goal is to prevent you to take the « phalic » position (low stress) to amplify the narcissistic compulsion to achieve it.

If you want to force yourself to read almost 100 books a year or other unnatural and unpleasant activities to finally find safety, that's fantastic; But that won't be my paradigm.

I was sick for a week recently and noticed that I couldn't get aroused by anything. It was freeing moment and saw masturbating as a boring thing to do. This proved me that in which state you're in, you have to be honest to yourself.

But, then when I got well, I was rejuvenated and got more deeply aroused.

Also, when masturbating, contemplate about the process.

Yes if you are addicted to it and its eating up your time and energy and getting in the way of making you productive.

No if that's not the case .

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

People on the internet put a lot of emphasis on masturbation despite other factors being much more fundamental to one's wellbeing, like sleep, diet and exercise. I don't think masturbation is nowhere near as big of a deal as certain people make it out to be. Thinking that whether or not you masturbate will change your life is complete nonsense unless you have some sort of major addiction, in which case you need professional help.

If you think it is taking away too much time then sure, cut down on it but its not going to have some major effect on your life most likely. I find masturbation really helpful with falling asleep at night personally but I've done it less recently in general due to wanting to spend the time elsewhere.
