What should i do in the summer break?

14 posts in this topic

I will spend this summer at one of my family member's home without my parents and i need some suggestions. This family member lives in another city that I don't know anything about it. And I don't have any friends in both cities.

In this 3 months break I want to improve myself. I'm already doing some stuff to improve myself but this break will be impressive!

And I need to meet with people. I don't know how to meet with new people in a city that I don't know anything about it. I can't just sit at home for 3  months. And I spend my last two summer holiday without going outside and speaking with people. I remember that I had a streak that I didn't go outside for 20 days. You can guess the results. I don't want to see that things happen again.

And I'm too skinny. I'm 173 cm and 55 kilograms. I need to change my eating habits. Actually my diet is just trash. I'm only eating pasta and some meat everyday, no vegetables and fruits. I don't know how I'm still alive lol.

I want to start running too. Its easiest sport that I can do without any equipment. I just want to be healthy and fit.

I don't know that should I play games? I'm sleeping for 8 hours and I have 16 hours free day. How can i spend my time?

And where can I find some healthy dopamine. Does PMO is a bad dopamine source? Can I watch series?

During this time I want to start reading self-help books. I was reading them from my mobile phone but it makes my eyes burning. Buying physical copies is clearly better option for me.

And I need to study math. I want to go abroad in future and only way to do this is studying hard I guess. Great college means high salary and a great network. America is my dream and I know that one day I will go there. Its really funny to see that ones dream is 333 million people's reality, lol. My biggest dream is to go to the America one day and every single day 10.000 babies born in America. That's ironic.

I'm meditating for 2.5 months and I'm meditating 30 minutes everyday. Should I increase the time to 1 hour or 45 minute? Does time matter to much?

I need your suggestions in any topic :) What should/shouldn't do? I have so much free time and I want to spend it effectively. I'm still in 1X ages and this is my last bullets. If I waste this free times it can cause something that irreversible. How can I plan my day and be effective? This will be the best summer.

Have a nice day!

sounds like you already have it figured out:

-Meditate for 1 hour

-Practice math for 1 hour

-Read for 30 mins

-Go for a walk/Run around the city and force yourself to talk to at least 1 person every day

If you would like to get into better shape you could very well start going to a sport, i am thinking a perhaps more traditional team based sport, where if you prefer cardio then something like football, or if you prefer strengh then something like rowing. Since then you can both meet people and do exercise.

With food you just have to start learning to cook. A goal you can use is for example 1.5 gram of protein pr kg of bodtweight. And lets say 300 grams of "greens" a day, just a start. You can always up it. The type of "green" is really not that important, especially to start, so garlic, onion, and an apple is plenty good.

You need to fill your days with meaningfull activities, if gaming is rewarding to you, then don't start to take it out, without something more important you want to do. It's just going to make you depressed.

Sounds like a really good idea with more meditation.

If you want to study math to become rich, then remember that applied math, or logic, is what really seems to pay, degrees like math econ, actuairal math, computer science and the like. With that being said math is a good topic to be good at. Buy money only really matters if you need it.

@Abe27

Actually I'm not studying math for being rich :) . I'm studying math for collage exams. If I made bad results on collage exams I can't go to a great collage. Bad collage means bad education environment and bad network. I am living in Turkey and every young man must go to military services according to the law. And only way to legally escape from compulsory military duty is going to a collage. During the education time I will be free from compulsory military duty. When I finish the collage I will do my master degree or some stuff to increase my education time. I hope luck will be with me and I will go abroad in this limited time and I will escape from country without completing my compulsory military duty :).

And thanks for your recommendations :)

@Evan Gill

Meditating  (1 hour)

Studying math  (+1 hour)

Going out and meeting with new people (2 hours)

Eating and preparing my healthy meal (2 hours)

Some physical exercises (30 minutes)

Reading books (1 hour)

I have 16 hours a day to do something. And I can barely plan the half of the day :). Having lots of free time is the mother of the all evilness :). I still can't make a decision about games. Should I play them after I finish all of my responsibilities or are they compeletely harmfull even I play with consciousness?

And I think I should produce something. People who had free time in past always produced some stuff. People were writing books just for fun! Look at Franz Kafka's life this dude wrote all of his books just for himself (except 3 of them) and after his death, one of his friend published all of his books. People were insane in the past :).

I guess I will start making videos about tech stuff. I will be the 949272893th person who speaks about how to root mobile phones lol.

@Abe27

Thanks for your interest :D.

There are regions I don't want to go to rather than specific countries I want to go to. For example, I definitely do not plan to go to the Middle East, Asia and Far East countries. My biggest goal is to go to America, but in this process, I may also go to European countries first. I know that it is easier to get a visa for European countries. To get a visa for America, I need to be a European citizen. America does not give visas to citizens of Middle Eastern countries.

Doesnt the us want highly educated people, from turkey? The main reason for us high growth and prosparity is since it has important to many talented people

What are you thinking of studying? Having an interest for i suppose? I know all types of education from countries like turkye isent seen as valid in the vest, or at least Denmark where i live. Just so you don't become a doctor to not being able to be one in the countrys you want to move to.

@Abe27 Yeah I know the "equivalence certificate" stuff. But I don't want to be a doctor or an engineer. I want to be a developer. I guess its the easiest way to go abroad.

Yes USA wants highly educated people all around the world but its all about chance. For example there is 15.000 software developer in Turkey. Imagine that 1% of the developers are highly educated. %1 means 150 developers. And only 5% of those people can get a visa for working. Every year only 1000 Turkish citizens can get a American visa. %75 of this visas for touristic purposes. Less than 250 turkish citizens can get a visa for working in America every year. That's why I want to go to an European country firstly.

I want to study computer engineering in collage. I heard that companies doesn't asks for collage degree in the European countries. I looked some job advertisements on linkedIn and I saw that even in Turkey companies doesn't asks for collage degree for developer roles. I hope luck will be with me all the time until I go abroad :).

The biggest trap to look out for is waiting to arrive in the US to start living your life.

Remember, wherever you are, there you are.

Good luck youngster!

@quantumspiral Thanks :D

Actually, you are right, I mean, it would be a great disappointment if I couldn't go to America one day and it would be sad if I planned my entire future accordingly. Never mind, I'll come to America one day :D
