Do I need to be concerned about having high SHBG levels?

8 posts in this topic

These tests were taken back in february, I got them taken via Blue Horizon testing, I advised my GP but they don't seem to know much about it. The GP just tested my total testosterone.

Again Total testosterone came back slightly high, but they said they aren't concerned.

I've been side tracked with other distractions.

I know I've had a very low sex drive throughout my life, no desire for relationships and little to no desire for sex with others. I think Autism and other issues may play a role in that. I never get lonely.

But considering my current issues I'm willing to consider that anything that's out of range could play a role.

No + low libido is not so much related to testosterone levels.

Stress is the biggest cause of low libido, the simple fact of being worried and making a post about your SHBG levels shows you are anxious lol.

And when i say « stress » i don’t talk about an big stress spike like before an exam at high school or something like that, most of stress is very unconscious.

High stress state (and low libido !) looks like an autistic obsessional behaviour lost in mental loops. It’s an intensification of the egoistic process.

Low stress state is a playful, peaceful and eventually high libido state where the sexual energy in general is projected into the most essentials compounds of reality. Just touch a pillow is pleasing :P:)

I understand guys but this has always been the case with me, regardless of what state my mental health was in.

I have had stressful times in my life but ultimately, I feel clear headed. I do have depression, adhd, anxious thoughts, but I don't feel like I'm the sort to panic or worry about anything too severely.

There is something going on between SHBG and Total T. Given that SHBG and albumin are your transporters for main androgen hormones (including Testosterone, DHEA and E2) it might be that your body is pushing higher SHBG because total Testosterone is higher and maybe if your SHBB was lower, your free T would be very high - but that might be a speculation.

I think it would help to know your DHEA and maybe also DHT

It could be that it is compensating for albumin - have you ever had albumin measured? (again, another stab in the dark)

Another theory is that they were elevated back then and are no longer elevated at the present

It could also be that looking at this is a red herring and the issue is coming from something else entirely

I found a 1990 study summarising the prior knowledge on SHBG before 1990, have a look at the "SHBG Concentration in Disease section" , they make some interesting arguments there Sex Hormone Binding Globulin: Origin, Function and Clinical Significance (sagepub.com)

Have you throughout your life had any issue with testicular health? (torsion, late descending etc)

But I think we are all stabbing in dark here. I know you had lots of tests done. I'd honestly have to pin everything to a whiteboard together with a timeline of your symptoms and start there. I feel like this is just a part of the full story that needs to be uncovered.

Hey, I also just found a previous medichecks test and it has albumin in it, and it was mid-high normal.

Funnily enough my SHBG was within normal range, although high normal. That's interesting.
