Hippies looked pretty happy, so they were made illegal.

Who makes hippies illegal? Drugs, urinating at public places and stuff like that is illegal but who forces you to not be a hippie?

I mean there is some part truth to that, when your source of happiness is antithetical to survival, like you love to do nothing that gets forbidden, because the group wants to survive.

Is there even a part responsible for that? Sounds like a cultural expression of an innately formless aggressive quality that can be channeled any kind of way, an outward thrusting characteristic that creates a positive momentum for extrinsic action and physical expression that can be channeled towards growth and creativity. It needn't be tied to violence, violence itself is an act of separation and bad faith all too easily propagated however, continuing through lineages like an eye for an eye turning the whole world blind until someone is ready to forgive, since from an understanding of Non-Duality everyone is you, if only everyone was aware of that.

You think that these primitive energies can just be transformed? I am skeptical of that. Just like these no fap people say they can use that energy for higher things in their life and in the end they all give in. I dont think you can trick/ have that much control over your (primitive) psyche.

You should of course make your life about the highest goal you can think of but I do think that a bit of primitive needs will even remain then.

Do you think the primitive part is not in us anymore or is it repressed?

The difference between a primitive guy and us is that his natural impulses are perfectly aligned with his reality since they have evolved in parallel.

At the moment in which the collective ego separates itself from its context and begins to be the one who shapes the context, the human becomes a perpetually maladaptive and therefore unhappy being. lost, without understanding anything, it is a simple support of the collective ego and its imbalance is the cause of movement and evolution.

Humans build a psyche and adapt reality to this psyche, they do not flow with reality, they live in a strange farce that is only bearable if you are anesthetized by the constant flow of stimuli that you receive. Then, as the op said, human is a depressed being, even without realizing it. Every human is separated, living in suffering.

Everyone looks pretty happy from outside, but they really live in avoidance and permanent anxiety. what is called suffering, uninterrupted, permanent. but humans are tough and endure that without a problem. can endure being enslaved and working making the pyramids of Egypt with whips, so living in permanent depression and anxiety is not a problem, there are a lot of tricks to don't realize it.

@Breakingthewall Well there are ways to consciously built a world/ society which aligns with how our brain has evolved in nature. Which is why in first world countries a lot of trees are planted in urban areas, being a digital minimalist becomes trendy, schools in Sweden now use more text books instead of tablets (which still isnt all natural I admit), and many other stuff. It isnt enough of course but we at least do something about it.

Yes, more and more work is being done on human well-being and people are increasingly depressed and anxious. the rate of depressed children increases exponentially. It is an extremely serious matter. A child from the Congo is much happier than from Sweden, by several orders of magnitude. where aim this point? well, at the end of the species, simply. There is only one solution to the dead end that is modern life: enlightenment. real, complete. This is something very difficult, an extreme, radical change. We will see how reality regulates itself, very interesting.

I think technology evolves faster than our "natural integrating systems". But we do have wisdom on our sides. Look at VR for example. Not everyone is jumping on the hype train because we know from experience with smartphones and computers that this new world probably won't make us much more happy. So wisdom might win in the long run.

Are you sure about that? It's easy to look just at a certain aspect and argue that it is all depends on that. Yes the kid in the Congo might not have social media and therefore in this aspect might be a lot more happy then a kid in Sweden. But there are other aspects to look at which affect happiness. Maybe the kid isnt happy because he isnt as healthy nutrition wise, its more detrimental to get sick, he cant actualize himself in his country, its not as safe..

Maybe in the end you are still right but I dont think so in the bigger picture.

Technologie isnt out for so long. Maybe in a hundred years we will have shaped our world consciously enough to align more with our natural self.

Id say the cause is not the technology and all that, it's that humans are increasingly superficial, disconnected from reality, narcissistic in a particular way, consumers of content, needing to be entertained, empty, without true love. So, their children become depressed, because they do not find the true connection that a human needs, and it does not matter if you optimize their circumstances, they may be perfect, but they are disconnected, they are in hell, and their children, that will be few and few, more deeply in the hell of isolation and absence of love

Sadghuru can struggle as much as he wants with his yoga, he's in the vegan rabbit hole and he's a "low frequency" curmudgeon with a dad bod.
It's even worse for most other gurus.

Yeah some say that everything is chemical, but maybe the chemistry is consequence of the energetic pattern created by the individual, and changes when the pattern changes
