The emotion of discipline

5 posts in this topic

I believe a critical factor in becoming more disciplined is recognizing the distinct physiological state that allows you to be disciplined.

The next time you exert discipline, become aware of your internal state. You will feel a 'sharpness' to it. In contrast to when you're undisciplined and lazy, you internal state has a 'softness' to it.

The more you addict yourself to this sharp physiology of discipline, the easier it is to be disciplined.

But discipline most requires you to act precisely when you are in a soft, sloppy state, when you are least capable.

If your discipline depends on your mood then it won't be very good.

Actually discipline is mostly  about building and sticking to habits and routines long term until they become second nature to minimize conscious effort. You are talking about willpower  really which is resisting temptations and take specific actions in th very moment

Your habitual impulses lead you down the same roads. Discipline is stopping that movement, creating a result that wouldn't naturally arise for you as a result of your habitual patterns.

I think Davis Clarke is a good motivator to move your butt and exert your discipline, you should check him out.
