How do you vote?

There's an upcoming election where I live and I have no idea what to vote for.

I have very little knowledge of the political landscape here and I don't pay attention to any news or politics. I know next to nothing I'm sorta a blank slate. The only reason I know that an election is coming up is because I saw signs hanging outside and I looked up if an election was on the way.

How do you vote in a general sense? what are some principles for voting consciously?

There are often like questionnaires about different political questions you can fill out. Depending on how you answered different parties are recommended to you. 

Also you can see their main points on their website. You can roughly see what their intentions are through that.
