"everybody is a hypocrite/everybody is a little bit racist"....no they are not.

1 post in this topic

these are common sayings, but they've never made sense.

They're often said by people who are hypocrites and racist to justify and soothe their own views/behaviours.

Some are more hypocritical than others. others are more rigid. I don't think highly hypocritical people are "bad" or "sullied" people. they just don't take their word literally, or are very impulsive. Or they were raised not to take shit very seriously. In themselves, these aren't bad traits. but not everybody is the same mentally or psychologically. Some might have been raised to take shit seriously. Others might be less impulsive, or do take their word literally. It all kinds to make up the world. It's not some empty cliche, but a fact as we're all different.

The phrase "everybody is a little bit racist" makes me giggle. Nobody is born racist. We're born with the capacity for biases and bigotry. This doesn't have to manifest automatically in racism. When people make this point, they're almost saying that we're as equally susceptible to societal norms or indoctrination, or there is some "racist gene" or area of the brain that makes people so, which is nonsense and baseless on both counts. I'm not "inherently racist". It's clearly racist people who say this, to try and ease their own feelings and thoughts. "Oh it's not my fault - it's my SOCIETY. It's how my brain operates!!!"

stop projecting! people who do this make themselves look like fools when they assume how they think based on their own life experiences, personalities, upbringing, genetics, epigenetics, etc. applies to ALL 8 billion people alive today. Or would apply to people living in the future or who lived in the past. Because there could never be a flighty person living in 2250 AD China, who lives next to a rigid and principled person in a worker's apartment block on an asteroid mining craft construction site. If humans live another 200k years, then maybe there would be trillions of us who have ever lived. Yep, some dipshit hypocrite with a flighty mind or racist looking to rationalise their own mindset in 2024 AD can speak for people he never knew in the past and will never know in the future!
