Seeking is needed, but then comes a point when seeking has to be dropped. The boat is needed to cross the river but then comes a moment when you have to get out of the boat and forget all about it and leave it behind. Effort is needed, without effort nothing is possible. And also only with effort, nothing is possible.

It will take a long time... when awareness becomes natural and no effort is needed. Unless this point comes where no effort is needed, awareness has not been attained yet. When you can forget about all efforts and simply be aware, then only have you achieved it.

On the other hand, don't burn your ship before you've crossed the ocean

Depends what you mean by that, because I don't see everyone as one yet, so you can have that without full enlightement.

Till self-realization we need efforts. Self-realization is reaching to your center. Many religions have believed that self-realization is the end—for example, Jainism—you have come to your ultimate truth. It is not true. Full enlightenment happens when we drop all efforts.

Advice of Bentinho:

Quote

When applied with dedication, this is all there really is to Enlightenment. Direct recognition of what is always already here is a short cut—only needed because, in the quest for enlightenment, we’ve invented so many winding roads to get us to where we already are! Where we truly are, in essence, is natural and obvious: we are already here, right now.

Note: Ceremonial and durational aspects aside, meditation and recognition are essentially the same act, each being applied in a different setting and with a somewhat different attitude.

It’s really only the ambiance, or intentionality, that differentiates the art of meditation from the art of recognition. The heart of these two practices is the same: meditation is nothing more than being dedicated to applying the gateway tool of recognition repeatedly within a certain time frame—more frequently than your regular life, at least currently, inspires you to do.
