Do horror movies affect the subconscious mind?

I ask because I see most of the movies recommended on this forum by users are either horror movies or some pretty dark ones. I mean the subconscious is constantly recording no matter how much you think you're in control with the conscious mind. So one way or another our subconscious will be affected.

Yes exactly hence my post. Why are people in a 'self-help' forum watching horror movies if they know it will effect them negatively? I.g: watching a horror movie then having bad dreams that night thus impacting their next day/days in not the best way.

Generally, the experience is more salient than the predicted result of the experience.

A way to expand this is to make the result of the experience part of the experience in your mind.

Forget what I said above; but to answer your original question, watching horror flicks here and there won't affect the subconscious. Maybe the subconscious was already impressed with so-called dark stuff, as you put it, why they are watching dark stuff. Many "dark" people get attracted to Spirituality in the first place because they are seeking the "light", are depressed, suffering, anxiety ridden and lost, so movie preferences won't change because of some Spiritual teaching. 

It takes at least approximately 90days to impress the subconscious and it takes an identity shift for that to be implemented, but that's if you want to go that route. Another route is to say, it's just a matter of taste and doesn't matter in the Absolute sense and calling something "dark" over "light" is just a duality and there's no difference but only what the individual sees it to be subjectively.
