Why TikTok Should or Shouldn’t be Banned?

  We are not a good species when it comes to banning stuff, for example  billions think slavery is something unacceptable and shouldn't be allowed yet we practice it like there is no tomorrow.

Same for the technology ban is not gonna solve anything. You can't ban adults. Can ya?

I'm against the ban. It's used by a ton of US businesses and creators and I don't support much of anything this geriatric congress passes. They are old and out of touch. I don't see any security risks from people using this app. Parents can do a better job parenting if they want to cry about the app poisoning the minds of kids. It's called taking away the ipad. And lastly it sets up more stupid tit for tat geopolitic games between the USA and China. The biggest issue here is the flat out lack of integrity USA business does overseas by censoring themselves to make more cash in foreign markets ran by authoritarian governments. Critics used to scold them for that and tout how the USA version was so free and shit and how they shouldn't do business there if they don't uphold American values. How times have changed, we want to now flat out ban a harmless app with zero evidence it does any harm just to "get them back." USA has gone to shit, move abroad if you have the cash.

There is a missed opportunity for shorts for making highly addictive High Consciousness material.

An idea has to be packaged in an addictive format but that's a skill that isn't easy to master.

I believe anything can be packaged in highly addictive way.

This is an oxymoron. High Consciousness work is difficult, boring and mundane. It is meant to shake you out of your comfort zone not reinforce it.

Is that true? You can be a boring teacher or an entertaining teacher it's a skill. We've all experienced really boring teachers in school. Entertainment is a skill. High Consciousness material could be packaged in a Lord of the Rings fantasy story, if you're a good enough writer you can pull it off.

There may be an alternative motive for banning Tik Tok beyond a geopolitical clash with China.

I have been seeing a lot of posts about the comments of the ADL CEO and a conversation between Mitt Romney and Blinken that enforces that this may have to do with Israel and Palestine:

Like if you want to teach multiple paradigms: Scene- you have a perspective gun- every time you shoot someone it changes their perspective, and you're living in the universe where everyone's running around with these perspective guns, and they're in a war zone and you could show all the different conversations and alterations these New Perspective causes in maybe a funny way.

Or if you want to teach people maturity: you can create a very heartfelt story of maybe a father and his children and really dig deep into the world of maturity through storytelling, but you could really incorporate higher level Concepts that are found in Leo's videos.

@integral If you reframe it as “entertaining” instead of “addictive” I am more likely to agree. Even then, I think the deeper point is that for every 10 minutes of high consciousness content you consume you need to spend a 100 contemplating yourself. TikTok clearly isn’t the format for that. There is a reason less and less people can finish a 20 min video, let alone an hour or two.

Can someone explain to me why are people using Tiktok anyway? I mean in a way that is relatable to me, cause I have never ever felt the need to even instal the app (except for experimental reasons), nevermind actually scroll on it. Youtube is much, much more entertaining to me and always was, and I get more dopamine from long format videos anyway. I guess you really have to be exposed to this shit from early childhood so that you're braindead enough to actually enjoy it and prefer it

Anyways, I do think it should be banned, as anything comming from China really. We should replace everything comming from China with our own stuff. Seems like capitalism ironically screwed us over once again in this regard, allowing the country with a political regime absolutely detrimental to our geopolitical aims and our freedom to gain significant ammount of capital, power and influence. Oh, well. It is what it is, as they say. The genie is out of the bottle already

What about YouTube shorts or instagram reels

I have actually started giving Tiktok a shot with music, its being kinder to me than youtube is that's for sure. The views are at about a 200:1 ratio. X to youtube is about 100:1 for me also, the engagement being about 50 to 1. So it tells you where to focus, drop stuff on Tiktok first, then X, then Youtube. I've no idea how to grow on instagram. (Obviously all the music sites also or use a publisher to do it for you)

Views on Tiktok mean nothing, that's why everyone gets a lot of them. You can't really monitize views on Tiktok and neither can you divert that "audience" on some other platform because, once again, they're all just zombies zombieng. They haven't watched your content or followed your channel because they're genuinely interested in it, they're just scrolling mindlessly. Views on Youtube mean a hell of a lot more and thus it's much harder to get them

For music I am not convinced of this. Because it's all about how much someone or a group of people hears a song.
