What do these ascetics from India smoke?

They usually smoke hash from a chillum. They also put a some humid cloth in the mouth to cool down the smoke when it traverses it, in this way they avoid burning. It's one of the oldest ways of smoking and is very popular in both Afghanistan and India.

It provides a straight hit and a profound peak high.

Ganja/Charas, so Cannabis/Hash. I heard local people actually donate it to them, and these sadhus often like to share  too
