Majority of scientific human knowledge is focused on predictive power

They say knowledge is power. Human survival has been predicted on our ability to feel in control. Our ability to feel in control comes from our ability to predict the future. The more you can predict the future the more power you have. For example if you didn't know where your hands or feet were going to move next you wouldn't feel secure in your body and wouldn't trust it.

So all of human resources and energy has been predicated on studying how things work, what their patterns are and then trying to reproduce those patterns exactly the same way so we can use it for our benefit. This is why humans are selfish. They want to control patterns for their own personal pleasure. Nothing wrong in that, but it becomes disastrous when done outside certain parameters. 

It is important to pay attention to how much you focus on the past or the future, depending on how much you think about the past or future can be indicative of you being a control freak and that will fill you with anxiety. Majority of mental issues stem from a lack of acceptance of how little control you actually have in your life. If most people knew how little control they actually have ( humans secretly have no control actually but that is an entirely different matter) they would freak the hell out. Also... the self improvement industry as a result would crumble. 

Anyway notice that the main human bias that runs all human relationships is the desire for control, which is the same as the desire for power over something. The ability to predict the future is the greatest power a human can have. This is what ever human searches for, proper understanding so they can align with what is toward a desired result/outcome.

Yes agreed, but ppl are searching for pleasure/happiness outside of themselves, via stimuli to bring forth an experience within themselves, all experience happens within You no where else, so the secret is to find the way to create your own experience, choose how you want to experience life then create it each moment, then your pretty well totally free, no longer looking outside for inner wellbeing, this is the start of the Spiritual Journey because it stops the "What about Me" survival instinct from poping up. 

There are 2 main forces always happening in our lives, both are one, but seem separate, one is the force of Self Preservation, it builds walls and is protective in nature, the other force is to be Unbounded, Totally Free, Unrestricted in all Ways. The latter is what Spiritual Aspirants are searching for, the Nirvana, Moksha, to be complete connected and one with everything, for this too happen one has to drop the Body/Mind complex we are so identified with, and leave this realm. When "What about Me" drops, then You are truly moving forward in full stride, the start of this is being Blissful of Your own nature...

The question isn't if I'm sure, the question is are you? If it isn't due to survival then what is the cause?
