Mr.Beast Has A New Show. It seems Soulless. Opinions on Him?

4 posts in this topic

Very timely considering Leos recent blog post. I very much agree with the article and Vaushs take mentioned. The Mr beastification and tiktokification of the internet is rotting the minds of the youth. I despise every thumbnail of his and even though he seems like a well intentioned person, I just think of the potential hes squandering. He has the largest audience on the planet and chooses to produce slop content and sell candy bars.

He has this obsession with just being the biggest. In this interview, he talks about his new gameshow where he explicitly says that his main goal is to make it the most viewed gameshow of all time, with the most contestants, and biggest prizepool. No emphasis on it being actually good, because to him having a shit ton of view must mean its objectively good (With this metric, McDonalds would be the best restaurant because it feeds the most people everyday).

Do you think he'll be able to do this type of stuff for the forseeable future (10-20+ years) or do you think people will grow tired of this type of stuff and seek out media with more authenticity and personality? If the YouTube algorithm or content landscape changes, do you think Mr. Beast will be able to adapt? Are you guys fans of Mr Beast?

People are already looking for that, creators simply amplify their wants.

Mr. Beast isn't even the worst of all. Just look for YouTube videos made towards children, it's pure "sludge", absolutely non-sensical, and actively harmful (sexuality mixed with children's cartoons). At least Mr. Beast has some sort of coherentish narrative/plot. But it's no better than the stuff we would have no traditional TV. Parts of our society already had that talk before, about the shallowness of most of the content on TV. But for example, at least in Brazil. The biggest TV channel (TV GLOBO), they have a somewhat equilibrated display of different things, but not too much, they can't put too much education of the public, because it can be too niche and people would tune out. But I've seen them trying to improve, and not being so shallow. I remember they removing certain humor that was cheap and geared towards laughing on the backs of opressed people (poor people, etc) and tuning that stuff completely out. But also on the other hand, it has been getting too politically correct.

I can see changes happening in our society. Can you see we becoming more politically correct for example? But somehow it's becoming too much?

Mr. Beast tries to stay wholesome as much as possible, I don't see him being cruel/tasteless or toxic on purpose beyond what's needed to give people what they want to see.

I seem him as somewhat an improvement.

But idk what direction mankind is going culturally. It makes me wonder, could we become so degenerate one day that we have literal porn (and the hard stuff...) on the front page of tiktok/youtube, and that is just normal? Currently, we have a lot of nudity at best.

Well, actually thinking about it. The children stuff on youtube... There is minecraft "porn" on youtube basically. That shit is fucked up.

He isn’t squandering anything. His content & businesses are the reason he has a huge audience. If he started talking about the stuff we are interested in here he would loose his audience.

If McDonald changed their whole menu tomorrow and started selling celery juice it would loose millions of consumers. It’s not like those consumers would magically start liking celery juice.

You can only teach an audience that wants to learn. People will be people.
