Competition always means the same thing - a zero-sum game where the goal is to take something away from someone else. Competition is what you do when you don't know how to create value. It's a remnant of the animal kingdom. Apes didn't know how to be creative so they had to compete for what nature created for them. Among people competition is an indication of lack of self-actualization and a sleeping creative mind. You are either using your own mind to define what the prize is or you are competing for obvious prizes created by other people. It's like asking 'what would a healthy war look like?'. In a self-actualized world competition will be relegated back to its rightful place in the Paleontology museums.

My intuition is that Ego is simply a byproduct of identification with maya. Everything in maya is impermanent and as a result when your true Self identifies with anything in maya be it your body or even the universe itself, the false belief in survival appears out of thinking that something needs to be protected. Naturally if you believe you are something impermanent you will try to hold on for as long as possible. Realizing that the true Self is not of the universe quite possibly either dissolves the Ego completely or makes the Ego a slave of the true Self. The biggest shock possibly is that upon letting go there's no loss whatsoever. A Buddha said, "identifying with anything, even the universe at large, is an ego illusion." -

If the dream doesn't exist then it's not existence, just an illusion. It exists in a similar way that a mirage does. You perceive it but only because you are delusional. Buddhists have a nice exercise in realizing what existence is not, called Dependent Origination: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratītyasamutpāda Basically the idea is that, if something changes then it doesn't exist and is simply an illusion. If you want to understand why that logic is valid check out the full exercise. One of the greatest book on the topic of what exists and what doesn't is called "Heart Attack Sutra" by Karl Brunholzl. -
What you call reality isn't reality with or without DMT. The only difference between one dream or another is a difference of dimension like taking an elevator. You don't return to reality after the trip is over you just switch to a different frequency like a radio. The main reason that you don't stay in the other dimension as much as you want when you take the psychedelic is because you didn't produce that frequency on your own you took another organism's frequency and aligned yourself with it. The mushrooms and the toads live there 24/7. You don't need a psychedelic to switch to another dimension when you sleep either. In order to move to another dimension one needs to completely let go of the current one the same way you do when you go to sleep.

Not sure why you believe that Spiral Dynamics is some sort of elevator or like some swiss army knife where you switch paradigms depending on the situation. Every higher level integrates the lower ones so that you never need to regress again. But every higher level also filters out the junk that lower paradigms had. There's no situations in which going back to a lower paradigm makes any sense. To be able to truly regress to a lower one you would actually have to forget why you transcended it in the first place. That's like saying, "sometimes when you are dealing with children, you have to go back to first grade and forget how to write" or something like this. Every paradigm is equipped to deal with all the challenges that the lower ones are. Your integrity would HAVE to actually crumble for you to be able to embody the mindset of a dictator (red). If you are feeling fine about red that's not because you are able to revert back to it, that's because you haven't ever transcended it in the first place. Do not mistake your victim mentality for humility. -

I empathize with your situation and I am sorry if you've gone through a hard time trying to help some like that without success. Feel free to vent if you need the immediate relief. However It does seem to me like you are struggling with some unresolved trauma from the past that tends to flavor most of your replies. Also why are you so fascinated in reverting back to red? There's no need to go back in evolution to understand what the best course of action is, if that were true then solving infectious diseases would require us to revert to being bacteria. If you feel like you need to punish someone for having hurt you or to exact revenge on someone, realize that an eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. “Problems cannot be solved with the same mind set that created them.”. P.S. Also what's with the prejudice telling everyone what they've experienced or haven't experienced? I understand that you are hurt, but this is very immature. Do you believe that if a person isn't feeling like you after being hurt then that means then they haven't experienced what you have experienced? By that logic everyone who's been hurt should hold an eternal grudge and declare the impossibility of uplifting society throughout their whole life. Maybe that's not the best way? -

That's truly massive, if this guy is completely honest and has no ulterior agenda then he's definitely reached the self-transcendence level on Maslow's pyramid and maybe even the stage turqoise on SD. I think he will be more effective by building infrastructures for these people though, it's not clear that these people know what to do with their money. That's literally a child rapist, lol. -

You are exactly right. And since you are already aware of this, this makes you a prime candidate for becoming a bringer of light. People who understand what you said are few so the world literally relies on those few to bring the light and evolve society. If you decide to embrace this journey this can be both a burden and a blessing. -

This seems quite interesting. Although I am not sure that all pedophiles have gone through child abuse themselves. Maybe it's possible to lose your innocence for other reasons as well and therefore you are looking for it outside again. -

Don't forget that how much resources are needed to help is only true relative to the tools that we have right now. If we were to create more effective tools then using those tools would require less resources to help those same individuals. Therefore increasing effectiveness is also critical. For example think of how much resources were needed to send information from one point to another 200 years ago. Now you can send an email for free. -

You can't prove reality beyond a doubt. There's no certainty in scientific evidence. Name one thing that's been proven beyond a doubt through scientific evidence? Even scientists don't claim that. As far as scientists are concerned there's no such thing as absolute truth, there's just 'here's what happened, if it happens twice then maybe it will happen three times'. That's all science is. Reality can only be experienced beyond a shadow a doubt, it can't be proven. I can tell you all kinds of stories but if you don't experience it you can keep asking, "but how do I know that's true?". Your confusion is rooted in your belief that there's some external authority that can be equivalent to your own realization. Even if the Buddha told you what truth is like you still wouldn't be sure if he's lying or just psychotic. As far as you're concerned everything beyond your own experience is just people making noises and drawing pictures on things. Logic can't prove anything either, because logic starts with an assumption as well. Isn't it obvious to you that even as you are talking about the things you are talking right now there's 0 certainty? You might feel like you've arrived at the truth at certain times but that's simply because your imagination hasn't produced a way for you to question your conclusions. Then someone comes along and asks you how do you know you aren't in a simulation and all that this is being pumped in your brain and you only feel like you are thinking and you will be like 'I don't know'. Back to square 0. Why? Because you can make all kinds of BS when you are not interested in reality. It will never get you what you are looking for. The best you can hope for is to believe someone who is honest with you. Whether they are right or not will remain beyond your knowledge. That's the old humanity - gods, heavens, religions, fairy tales, they believed it all. Now you are looking to create a new religion for yourself. Do you really think that by mixing your beliefs with someone else's this will somehow produce truth? Or maybe if 100 people agree with you this will be truth? Or by remembering something someone told you then this is knowledge? This sort of noise shuffling is of 0 value to anyone on earth. Whether you want to go all the way to enlightenment or simply to partially increase your understanding of the world the principles are still the same. Enlightenment is just realizing how everything works, partial realization is just realizing how certain things work (e.g. duality). The principles are all the same though. It's just a matter of how far are you willing to go. Everything else is nonsense. -

Apparently he doesn't care if the question is right or wrong and is more interested in the actual question than in the answer. -

That's like asking - How can day and night both be true, it must be a paradox! There's no paradox you are simply trying to fit something that's not static into your static concepts . Use dynamic concepts and all those paradoxes vanish into thin air. (e.g. wave instead of a particle, process instead of a thing). Some of the words that you are currently using are simply not pointing towards anything, they are just made up noises about stuff in your imagination. So basically you are asking for some explanation of how reality works but you aren't interested in verifying it for yourself. Or in other words you just want some belief system to believe in? Do you think that enlightenment and how stuff works are different things? -
tatsumaru replied to RMQualtrough's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Not sure why you are bringing non-duality into this. You are contemplating the difference between existence and non-existence and how they are related to each other, that's as dual as duality gets. What I am saying is that you are arriving at a paradox only because you are using incorrect concepts to communicate about reality. These concepts are part of older understanding about what this so called reality is and are simply not correct. They are as incorrect saying that 'suffering is the goal of enlightenment'. It's not reality that's crazy, it's the conventions which are the insanity. If you want to explain reality through broken and obsolete paradigms all you will be doing will be contemplating paradoxes which have nothing to do with reality. There's a field called 'pure mathematics' for people who enjoy that type of stuff. -

In the current society prison's role is not so much to reform but to restrict so called criminals from the rest of society and use them as cheap labor. I would say that for most, prison makes them worse. If they need to become open to being helped in order to be helped your job is to figure out what makes a person open to help and facilitate this first before the actual help. Just think of cause in effect not of possible/impossible. If something needs to happen before the actual therapy then think about how you cause that prerequisite to happen. If something needs to happen before that even the think about that thing etc. The main limitation is your imagination here. -

Paradoxes aren't really a thing. Paradoxes only occur in the parallel world of conceptual fantasies and are mostly caused by mathematical delusions. A paradox is an indication of ignorance and misalignment between actual reality and the concepts that are used to interpret and reason about it. For example you could say that randomness is a paradox, because if something is random it would completely destroy order simply by interfacing with order and randomizing it and therefore there wouldn't be anything non-random which isn't the case. On the other hand if you could actually interface with randomness and make it less random then it would mean it isn't random. Such delusions are only possible in the conceptual parallel world, but if you really analyze language closer you will realize that randomness is just an artifact of the mathematical paradigm which believes that there is separation between so called things, but since there isn't mathematics break at certain points and they have to come with compensatory mechanisms such as infinity and randomness in order to correct for the infinitely (lol) incorrect view of separation. Before you make these funny games in your mind you should actually inspect the concept you are using to make them. What does it mean for something to exist? When you get to the bottom of this you will see that existence isn't a good concept for how the dream works and there is no paradox. The only reason you think there are separate things that exist is because it was useful a long time ago to be able to call certain experiences as 'stone', 'water', 'food' etc simply for convenience sake so you can say 'give me two stones please', however 'stones' is just an idea that you have in your mind, the reality of your experience is a denser form of a dreamy substance compared to less denser surrounding of the same dreamy substance. You can destroy that so called stone and then you will give yourself permission to not call it stone anymore but gravel and you would think that you changed the stone into gravel but you only switched ideas. The true substance of the dreamy world is not visible to the 6 senses. Matter isn't made out of matter. The way life works is much closer to music than it is to math. “Contradictions in perspective among those Seeing the profound do not occur”- Taranatha -

The only reality you faced is that you couldn't help them, not that they couldn't be helped. This reminds me about how in 1839 Dr. Alfred Velpeau said: "The abolishment of pain in surgery is a chimera. It is absurd to go on seeking it today. 'Knife' and 'pain' are two words in surgery that must forever be associated in the consciousness of the patient. To this compulsory combination we shall have to adjust ourselves." There have been countless statements like this one in history, all kinds of people stuck in their paradigms thinking they've reached the limits of what's possible only to be broken by next generations who didn't have these biases. Let your conclusions go. It's not our place to make premature conclusions about what's possible and what isn't. However what is the wise move is realize that certain paradigms aren't effective and that looking at life from certain perspectives won't lead to the solution you are looking for. When that paradigm is exhausted, drop that paradigm and evolve. I understand that you like closure and want to make a conclusion, however life isn't about closures. It's about growth. We learn to live without closure and that unlocks our full potential. That might be true or not. Yes from a systems thinking perspective there are certain ratios and rate of growth that aren't infinitely fast and therefore social reforms aren't instant. Regardless this shouldn't be viewed as some static fact and aware people should be pushing society to evolve beyond its static views of right and wrong, good and bad. Everything can be transformed. Not just to evolve the state of society but also to evolve the rate of evolution itself. What if it's possible to simply touch a serial killer on their forehead and create instant enlightenment? You could say no way, it took me 10 years to realize awareness and I wasn't even a psychopath. Maybe. But maybe you can figure out better solutions for raising awareness than what you relied on. Plenty of stories in spiritual traditions about instant enlightenment. Whether they are true or not is irrelevant, they can be used as a counter-weight to biases about what's possible for these biases are always wrong. -
Map out the human condition into categories to the best of your ability. For example you will notice that deficiency in any need on the Maslow's scale will manifest as suffering. Deficiency in food, health, beauty, sex, knowledge, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, art, purpose will all contribute to suboptimal human performance and non-happiness. Then solve the one that you resonate the most with and you feel will have the greatest impact on improving the human condition or that you will have the most fun solving. Alternatively solve some deficiency that you personally have and then when you figure out what the solution is you could turn this into a coaching business or an online course and spread it as much as possible for the greatest impact. Don't be afraid to dabble/prospect more in order to gain a better and more holistic perspective on how reality works, don't get stuck in one narrow paradigm, be a polymath.

I know this sounds arrogant, but that's not what it is. When I am around people who haven't changed a bit for the last 20 years I get scared. I feel like an alien for being interested in self-improvement and for being the only one willing to do the work and I panic. Also when I see these people that are suffering for the same reasons as 20 years ago and still complaining about the same things, that just feels so depressing. It's like they've reduced themselves to a movie that's been stuck on replay for 20 years. To spend your WHOLE life as an unconscious automaton who never gained even 1 bit of consciousness. I can't stomach this tragedy and feel depressed for the whole day afterwards. How can I cope with stagnation?

^ Here. I am sorry for the suffering you've experienced. If you are completely satisfied by health, stability and your friend not dying then that's fine. Apparently you consider self-improvement and purpose a luxury which means that you have more pressing problems right now. If your primary need is to survive right now certainly that's to be prioritized. When you figure basic survival out you will know what I mean by 'Survival isn't enough'. Good luck
-
Then don't claim that I've said things like 'health isn't important' when I haven't. Does Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs which I referred you to claim that Health isn't important or that it is of less importance than Self-Actualization. What I said was ' Survival alone isn't enough ', if you interpret that as 'Health isn't important' then I honestly wouldn't know how to communicate with you.

What's with the defensiveness? I thought we were simply having a discussion, now all of a sudden I need to be banned because I am contemplating something different? If you are not interested in replying or contemplating this that's fine, you don't have to reply, but what's with the anger... I am not wasting anybody's time, no one is forcing you to reply...
