While this is mostly true, it's also true that the US was not an autocracy at that time consuming bogus, alt right media. Bigoted and mean spirited, yes, the US was always that. But they actually had somewhat of a moral compass guiding them and a trust and belief in our government and establishments, not a crusade of alternative media brainwashing them.

I'm glad I never used Facebook. Being a millennial, I remember the early days of the Internet when it was mostly just us geeks and nerds on forums. The idea of normies populating the Internet never felt right to me...

I can see all these things coming to pass. This is what most Americans voted for, so hopefully they're prepared for the collapse of a once dominant superpower.
