@Joseph Maynor I’m surprised people still don’t see the falsness of free will. It’s been mentioned quite a bit but it seems like people just ignore the obviousness of it. -

Uh oh ? lets not introduce division into the kingdom of heaven now lol -
Yeah we don’t see that measurer is the measured. Thats why i try to identify by attention all forms of measure throughout the day. Very subtle forms of measure take place. Like the pleasure in gratification to become enlightened for example. If we see that every movement of demand from the center is a movment of measure we see that we must attend to thought diligently. It’s so sneaky man. To see what’s really happening, the danger of somthing becomes its own action away from it. Just the attention alone. Like the intelligence of jumping out of the way of a moving truck. There’s no thought, that would take to long. There’s just perception which acts instantly. This is the action of perception/intelligence.

Ah duh ?? The part about not being free from desire and a choice makes sense ? -

Could it be that thought isn’t yours. Thought is always old and of the past. And we are conditioned according to thought. Every action we take is on behalf of thought. Desire, choice?? Are we free from those? Are we free from desire? Is there freedom in having to choose?? -

Every second one must be alert and attentive to the stream of thought. Like an animal out in its environment is allert and attentive to its surroundings, scanning for various dangers. -
Fragmentation can’t be integrated into wholeness
-
That’s what I mean.. the you that is believed in distorts actually reality. You can’t change truth/reality. Truth/reality is of itself. The u who controls is the distortion.
-
What do you mean accepting reality?? The reality perceived by you can be altered. One who’s thought is in order has a very different reality than one whos thought is disorderly. But reality as in of itself is independent of the observer. Any view you have of reality is based on relationships, associations physicaly and mentally/thought...We can’t know it or grasp it by conceptualization. Our reality is dependent on how we interpret and what impressions are reflected back onto it. Does that make sense to you ?

Yes

I would say Intellect is only a part of total intelligence. Intelligence perception....comprehending the whole of thought and it’s relationship to the self. Seeing where the limits of thought. Intellect is the utilization In response to thought.

@shin Be aware that any movement to bring about security psychologically is a movement towards illusion though. I assume you are interested in liberation of the self being on this forum and all. It’s ok to learn how to defend oneself physically but to use that knowledge to bring about psychological security as in ‘becoming and not becoming’ will prevent psychological order. I don’t want to be the one who advises anything destructive in so as preventing the necessary freedom from self/thought. Good luck man

A simplistic foundation is important
-
It’s a combat related defense so it should be adaptable. I don’t know a lot about it in particular, but anything combat oriented is great. Keep everything as simple as possible. This is very important
-
Ok.. well I think you would be better off starting with jujitsu as a start. Especially if your are lean and slender.
-
Long body/short body long limbs?
-
Ok...out of those that u presented me with I would start with jujitsu personaly. For you basics self defense as containing a normal street brauler. What kind of body do you have?
-
Just investigate all limits.. just like psychologically investigating limits of thought. To know the limit of something is to know when and where it is applicable. Seem reasonable? But the direct real life cenerio seems to be what you want. But dont let this learning self defense create a back step in your psychological awareness. That tends to happen. Needs to be paired along with self inquiry

@ShinThen armed and unarmed combat would where you need to look. Theres no one method that can be used to respond to dynamic, active, always changing action of attack in a real life situation. What ever method learned comes with it it’s own various openings, holes, which are limits. When it comes to protecting oneself it is not wise to depend on a system how ever fancy, and convincing it may seem. Physical defense is similarl to psychological defense. Can’t rely on a method/system ‘knowledge’ According to tradition and a pattern Keep you safe. Life, physical/psychological danger comes at you from all angles and is unpredictable. There are to many variables to rely one system. To approach these variables with the system/method is to try and anticipate a future action in which you will have a solution to. But this is impossible to predict what will happen in advance. Method/system is only one aspect of the whole of martial art. This is why if interesed in actual protection and self defense there needs to be well rounded approach. One who is aware and great fighter will always attack your weakness. If your a great boxer I will get in close and take you to the ground. If you are a wrestler I won’t let you get in close. Same with jijitsu. There’s always a hole/opening to be ceased. So for self defense learn all aspects of the whole. All the different martial arts are fragments of the whole. I only say this because you say you want to protect in a dangerous situation. To choose one system will not suffice. Mid you are interested in a particular art like capoeira for the movement/health aspects/and utter beauty in movement then that’s ok. As long as you are honest with yourself about it’s limits. I hope this helps you in a decision friend??
-
@Shin The truth is outside of all fixed patterns. Bruce Lee Bruce Lee’s martial art philosophy and liberation are interdependent. Jeet kune do was influenced of self inquiry and freedom from the self. And that martial art is the most scientific and efficient one to learn. Now days jujitsu is included in it.
-
Ideally to learn a little of all is the best form of self defense. Just depends what you want to learn it for
-
What is your purpose? What are your intentions? What’s the most important reason to learn a martial art to you?
