You can have whatever plans and visions you want with your partner, but in practice, the marriage comes very useful and handy cause it gives you a ton of social benefits, such as sharing the residency status, easier loans, government programms, easier access to your partner if he hits the hospital, easier access to the partner's bank account if something happened to him (accident and so forth).
