@Jordan94 Good luck. The unified mindfulness system breaks mindfulness down into 3 components( Concentration, equanimity, sensory clarity) as long as you are training those 3 skills whatever you are doing is a mindfulness meditation. So if you listen to the rhythm of a song and keep your focus on that rhythm then that is a mindfulness meditation. If you are doing a walking meditation then that is also a mindfulness meditation. The beauty of his system is that it is so flexible. -
@Emerald IMO educating ourselves is probably the start. Having a solid foundation of climate science and actively spreading and embodying that message by sharing it through art, comedy, books. Another angle would be to make a shift from people based to policy based. Instead of talking and focusing on people we should focus on specific policies that address the situation we are in. I hope I'm getting across what I mean because I can see how making the distinction "policies" and "people" can seem arbitrary and nitpicky...but it makes total sense in my head I swear

That is the point by learning to meditate with stuff that triggers monkey mind and ego you progress faster because the resistance is higher and you push through that. Yea it sounds like Shinzen Young's material is perfect for you especially because you already do vippassanna. IMHO instead of aiming at doing one thing for hours it could be more productive to do all the things you do normally as a meditation. It seems to me you have alot of dedication so you can definitely pull it off. I have been actually trying the same thing for months now. -

If you like music you can use the music to meditate not as background but an actual tool which is quite fun. You can also learn to play an instrument and do that as a meditation that is also really fun but tricky at first. If you like sports then you can check out peter ralston's stuff. -
The system determines where the system goes. That's what makes systems so complex they cause and perpetuate their own behaviors. Goals of the system can of course set and be influenced by people but the very reason those people are in power in the first place is that they strive for the goals that are in line with the system. That's a completely different system though. Can you find examples where there is one leverage point that is actually one person? Of course but in real life complex systems that is almost never the case. The exact opposite is the case because people identify leaders or groups of people as the cause is what maintains the system. There are objective things that bother most people but because they blame different people they see themselves as opponents and become a split society. Realizing that trump is no more at fault than any other politician before him opens the door for people to unite on issues that 60-90% of the population agrees with and there are surprisingly many issues like that in America right now. http://www.allaboutfrogs.org/stories/scorpion.html I feel like just like the frog you don't see that a scorpion is a scorpion and can't be anything else. The second leaders stop acting the way they are expected to by other people in power they instantly lose the power they have. The only power they have is the power to advance the goals of the system.
-
I always like to read your nuanced take on things but I have to disagree with this point. Blaming individuals even people in power isn't a systemic way to view a system. The reason anybody you would blame is in power in the first place is because the system not only allows but also promotes them. The system is the root and the people in charge are leaves.

Nice to see some love for Contrapoints. She was the one who helped me get out of deep orange.

Because it is obnoxious. There is a place and time for everything and the time to question other people is when they 1. ask for your opinion 2. or perhaps when they challenge you. Imagine if you walked up to me and tried to talk to me about your day. You: Hey you know the craziest thing happened today... Me: Can anything really happen ? What is the you, you are referring to ? What is today is there really any other time than now? If you are not interested or knowledgeable in the subject either listen and learn something new, subtly change the subject or just say that you don't really want to talk about that subject.

Oh no I'm being tricked into enlightenment. Goddammit Leo you and your scheming. I think you are onto something... I remember when he put baited me to buy his entire book list because I wanted the kriya yoga book. Althought I came for one book I learned about shadow work and actually had some of the practices transform significant parts of my life... if this goes on I might actually become 2 Times happier in the next 3 years and that is when he will start his secret plan to dominate the world. -
The distinction of "real" vs "not real green" isn't a distinction that makes sense. TYT are really green and at that a real good example of how green looks when it's actually organized and has an impact on society. Sweden is also a really good example of a solid green society. And last but not least the non binary movement is the epitome of everything green stands for. IMO if you don't understand the arguments that non binary people put forward then you truly just don't understand green. The very act of breaking the binary of gender and transforming it into a spectrum of pluraity of genders while understanding gender as a construct related to biology but not entirely dependent on it is like the prime example of "include and transcend"

@Serotoninluv Thanks but I'm just a nerd who reads a lot. Got that from Ken Wilber. -

That's what people call the pre/post fallacy. Both stages are non-rational but you conflate the one that is post rational with the one that is pre rational. -
If you really can't stand it then well then that's the end I guess, but can you practice other meditations safely? If no maybe trying to outgrow your dislike of religion/Islam/prayer can help you grow a lot. In my experience facing the things I dislike the most also grows me the most. I used to really hate religions(I binge watched darkmatter2525 and other atheist content) and Christianity in particular. Now I can genuinely take the perspective of a Christian which makes my life WAY easier because the emotion that gets triggered is love, imagine being able to love the culture that you share with your parents wouldn't it be way cooler than being distanced from them?
-
@Leo Gura Really? Wouldn't reading and trying to appreciate a book like GEB actually pull you up because it shows perfectly how linear and rational thoughts have limits in a way that a person at stage orange can't deny?
-
I wonder why he doesn't get more credit on here, GEB is literally shattering my mind.

@Annoynymous You are welcome

You don't actually need to stop being a muslim all the practice that needs to be done can be done in the context of Islam. You can use the prayers as meditation and replace your usual meditation practice with it. The prayers you cant with the beats are actually mantras you can do the movements mindfully in the frame of basic mindfulness(Shinzen young). And if your parents aren't fundamentalists you can check out the sufi tradtion which is the mystic branch of Islam. If you are creative you can grow for the next 4 years without issues until you move out and can do whatever you want to.

I'm not Leo but I hope I can add something of value. 1.If you have included and transcended a stage you should be able to understand where they are coming from but also what they are missing at that point you can consciously try to take their perspective. You wouldn't be mad if a 6 year old child called you a poo-poo head would you? 2.The types of problems you have should change but if you want all suffering to end then you have to stop identifying with the ego because it is the source of all suffering. Spiral dynamics is mostly concerned with growing up. not waking up. 3. I recall that he said that most people on actualized.org are around Orange and then he later revised it to Green. In my opinion that is a misleading question and the answer he gave was also misleading. As he added in his current video there are different lines so when you ask what stage someone is you also have to specify which line of development you are referring to.
-
@Dan Arnautu You are welcome. Yea I definitely recommend that you buy the book if you like actualized.org you will love ILP.

Get the book integral life practice which gives you a couple of distinctions that spiral dynamics doesn't have on it's own. Let's take the sexual dev, line for instance you would break down your experience down into 4 quadrants. And then ask yourself questions fitting for each of the for quadrants. Questions I would ask would be: I: How do I relate to sex mentally and emotionally, what does sex mean to me mentally/emotionally It;How does my body relate to sex ? Etc.. The answers you give will show how you view sex and what it is for you at the moment(Is it about power and dominance( or about is it mainly a physical need? Is more focused on you pleasure or a tool for communication? Is it a mundane mechanical act or is it something spiritual?
-
Yea the weirdest thing was that he was completely ordinary.

@Preetom My internal dialog would be more like Thought: Why is this statement true? Thought: Because I say it is! Thought: But...that sounds so hollow..and stupid Thought: Look a squirrel !! And by the way why are left and right switched in a mirror but up and down are the same? Damn that girl has a nice ass...
