Totally agree, if you want to know what is of ultimate importance then a spiritual practice is necessary. -

@Paul92 I think you misunderstand what people mean when use the word consciousness in that context. It's not necessarily connected to morals. Everybody tries to enjoy their life but depending on which means they take to fulfill that wish shows how conscious a person is. A person doesn't need to have spiritual experiences in order to be more conscious. For instance just eating fast food every day because it's cheap and easy is a mark of low consciousness in regard to diet. Because such a person is not aware that medical bills and the hardships that fast food can cause is way higher than the immediate benefits. He can still be an amazing person. All the people you know can be really amazing people and whether they do any spiritual practice or not isn't really enough to say how developed they are. -

The thing that many including me would argue is that you can't be happy and unconscious. Consciousness is a critical part of happiness. And all unhappiness comes from a lack of consciousness in my experience. -

sounds cool but tbh I'm still kinda on the fence whether mantak chia is legit or not... a spiritual teacher throwing around scientific jargon is always a red flag for me. -

I have forgotten the name of the song but I remember that one song was complete silence and the noises the people made together with the anticipation of sound blends together to make the song. -
@Serotoninluv That's very encouraging to hear as I was looking to get into psychedelics to finally make the shift. Thanks man.

The way you look away to think and then back into the camera with a smile looks really genuine more so than the warmth those things I feel like are the true message in your videos I hope you keep that. Edit: QFT -- If I say I know something, it's also trusting in another person knowing of something and there is just room for the unknown-- -
I will only speak for myself: 1. Taking Leo either too seriously or not seriously enough. For instance sometimes Leo flippantly dismisses something in a way that I would judge as ignorance but if I take in account that he is just a human and this is a forum it is completely normal for the quality of his forum posts to fluctuate wildly because he isn't just responding on things he has researched for weeks or even months. On the other hand more often than not he raises some significant point that I fail to appreciate because I let my initial reaction distract me from what has been said. 2. For me actualized.org can become the biggest obstacle to what it's trying to achieve. Each topic that's been discussed each week would take decades to master so it becomes fatiguing to just skip from life changing idea to life changing idea and I always get pulled to the next new thing. So what I tend to do is engage with the content for a time and then I disengage to actually work on this stuff. In my opinion the intellectualizing problem on this forum is in most parts due to this point because there is a topic of the week and until people can actually really get into this stuff it's already old news. I mean when was the last time you heard anyone discussing holotropic breathing. 3. Reliance on Leo. Leo says on one hand that he wants everybody to go out and make their own insights but he acts like he wants everybody to follow him. I'm not saying that this is malicious or intentional but look at forum rules it prevents a genuine community that is independent of Leo to grow. I can see where he is coming from but that way it also prevents really cool stuff from happening as well. If Leo were to be gone tomorrow actualized.org would just crumble and disappear in like 6 months because his tight grip prevents it to grow bigger than him.

That won't work for a few reasons. 1. It is a lot easier to break something than it is to fix or build something new. One bad election cycle can pull us back decades especially in America where there are positions that are held for life(chief justice) if the president gets to nominate someone horrible for that position it will be around 30 years until that spot is free again. 2. There are a lot of bad decisions but just a few good ones. So the path towards higher consciousness is narrow and has to be continuously and carefully sustained by policy and government on one side and the citizens on the other side. Having a white supremacist one election cycle and then a libertarian in another cycle would hurt in the longterm. 3. Good actions can have a longer time window to show their fruits so there can be a lot of invisible damage done. Meaning that for instance dismantling a policy that could have benefited everybody in 10 years time greatly doesn't impact the lives of people now so it's hard to evaluate how much damage a system you proposed would actually cause.

One of my favorite books together with the book of not knowing by peter ralston

It's always present but just like with most things it's a matter of degree. It's one thing to post your opinion on a topic another to start listing all the things you have to do over the holidays for work when the topic is about when the new video will be coming. EDIT: And yes me pointing that out is also narcissistic because if it bothers me enough that I have to point then I'm trying to manipulate you to behave the way I want so I think I'll take my own medicine and stop now...
-
@Joseph Maynor EXACTLY! You got it,
-
@Joseph Maynor Hehe yea look at me making relevant points and shit conVERSATIONAL narcissism is when you manipulate a conversation to make the topic about you or something that you want to talk about. Example: A: Did you hear about the recent shooting? B: Yea horrible I can only imagine how the gunshots must have sounded because I remember from my hunting trip when I shot my first gun I was surprised about the loudness of that gun...but well at least I got the deer.
-
I think the point wasn't necessarily about no ego. But about your conversational narcissism.

This has nothing to do with materialism far from it. New Agers adopt spiritual language and mix it with sciency sounding stuff to create something that is close to religion. Don't let me tell you. Look at the responses from some people on this thread. If you've seen Adam's video you can clearly see that those people parrot the same talking points. Look specifically that those people lack technical depth none of them actually provided anything but assertions. -

@molosku Well said. -
Can't help you about how to deal with being on fire but investigating why you are offended is pretty helpful for me. Words are just words they can't do anything to you so if there is a strong emotional reaction there are concrete reasons behind them. If I find those I examine them and more often than not I realize that it's pretty ridiculous to let mere words have so much control over my emotional state.

I agree on most points because I have noticed the exact things you criticize in me and am trying to improve. The only point I disagree is that Leo is somehow at fault for not doing anything. If you look around there is evidence against that claim everywhere. Hateful and misguided posts get closed almost immediately by mods and/or Leo. Leo spends literally hours on here answering questions and correcting wrong believes. The patience that man has is awe inspiring. The same errors and question appear every single day he never gets tired either addressing them directly or in his videos. -
@NoSelfSelf Tbh that's out of my depth still good luck with that

@AlwaysBeNice It's actually pretty productive as well. As soon as your focus starts dropping you get instant feedback because you start freezing more. -
@NoSelfSelfIn order to think about that you need to think about how no self is experienced for instance one assumption might be that no self means that there is actually no self. But what is meant is that there is no PERMANENT self or that there is no self that is a thing but an activity. The activity still goes on after realization but you don't identify with it anymore. There are many more aspects and ways that no self can be talked about that I don't know enough about to talk of them.
