  1. Not learning skills like speed reading is like refusing to learn how to run when you can only walk. If you can speed read you can choose to read slower but if you can't even if you want to speed up you can't.
  2. @Leo Gura Then I may have misunderstood some things, because some of the practices are advised to be done at night before sleep and other lessons have a maximum amount of repetitions for a day.
  3. I'm new to kriya as well but I can see the value in both approaches. Having one chunk of time reserved for practice makes that practice become a habit faster and depending on your schedule most likely it will be easier to consistently free up 1 hour in the morning compared to 3x20 or 2x30 min. Also being able to practice anything for 1 hour at a time increases your attention span/focus. Splitting the practice up makes it more part of your day because the time you are unconscious without interruption is shortened, it is easier to force yourself to do something that is shorter and your schedule may simply not allow it for your to consistently split up your training.
  4. When I really don't feel like meditating I do guided meditations I'm pretty sure that guided meditation are pretty useless but they feel profound so that keeps me coming back tomorrow to do it again alone.
  5. Just make the thoughts the body of your meditation. So instead of having to fight that habit, work with it.
  6. @Elephant Well I came across the exact opposite. From what I've found people first have really harsh experiences during the first trip but I'm not too concerned with that I'm fairly confident that as long as I am conscious I have enough training to at least keep me from suffering too much during the experience. And no I have never done psychedelics before.
  7. I like this one the most: https://www.shinzen.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/art_walking.pdf
  8. You can use it as a "free" mantra. Just echo the words when you hear them one of two things will happen. 1. It disappears-> success 2. It stays -> success
  9. How did you learn of this method? I'm glad you are okay and that you made it but I probably won't be doing this any time soon haha
  10. @Leo Gura Yes exactly there are few places in which you can't practice mindfulness meditation and again that is actually the point of mindfulness meditation. You are kind of over generalizing, there is no one set of rules that all teachers use and while many teachers are hardcore there are some who are not. My point is that the way you phrase things gives the impression that there isn't a legitimate way to actually work with consciousness while listening to heavy metal music, masturbating with porn, etc. Yes the ego will always look for a way to defang the techniques but what if I choose techniques that don't cause that much of a resistance in the first place? Sure yoga and heavy metal might not be a good fit. But the SEE-HEAR-FEEL is perfect for that. SDS might not be a good fit while masturbating but trigger practice is.
  11. Oh come on Leo why you gotta introduce dogma like that... Of course you can use mindfulness meditation like that as a matter of fact that is it's exact purpose.Mindfulness in Shinzen young's style is supposed to take meditation into your life however your life might look like at the moment he even has a specific name for what you said not to do. It's called "trigger practice". It's okay to have your opinion but imho it's dangerous to act like your opinion is fact. If they can make sure that they are doing the technique correctly what exactly is wrong about doing it with things we actually like? As a matter of fact In my experience that is even more effective because the more mindful you are doing a specific thing, the more enjoyable it becomes which encourages you to be even more mindful.
  12. +1 But if this is your first project I would advise you to just do the front-end in any case https://www.freecodecamp.org/ is a pretty nice place to learn everything you would need to learn.
  13. You don't really need PHP if you aren't going to serve the website yourself. Otherwise javascript, html and css would be your go to. If you really wanted to you could also use python but yea.
  14. I just had this random realization, tell me what you think about it. Up until a few minutes ago I thought that chakras, the astral plane, the subtle body aren't REALLY real they are just an idea to get the body and mind to react in specific ways. But they are real or become real because a yogi constructs that reality for themselves even in the way that conventional society thinks about reality this is the case.If you accept that thoughts are real, ideas are thoughts and maths are a set of ideas. There is nowhere outside yourself you can point to and show me a math, but still we can use those ideas to form physical reality, so in the same way chakras are real and we can also change physical reality using those principles. Sure you can equivalently say that ideas and concepts aren't real but that also means that nothing is actually real but I don't really see how I can work with that.
  15. I have no clue I'm only good at pointing stuff out...I don't actually come up with solutions smh...
  16. Like right now. You are judging yourself for judging other people.
  17. Sit on the ground and put some pillows under your butt. It'll still hurt but it gets better.
  18. Jesus fucking christ those alt right ideas eat themselves through the very fabric of society like a cancer... I was a fool to believe that there would be communities that would be unaffected by them.
  19. If consciousness is what matter is made of then this is what memes are made of.
  20. Easy you are advancing spiritually if you have objective changes in your daily life that you can attribute to your practice. 2 Years ago it would have been impossible to consider me somebody who is capable of showing empathy and emotions in general, I was prone to anxiety and depression and had a massive lack of concentration and confidence. Now either all of those things just happened to disappear on their own, or I just made myself believe that the practice changed me( in which case where is the difference between "real change" and "imagined change" ?) or something is genuinely changing. What is the more reasonable thing to assume.
  21. Why are you asking a forum of random people who might or might not know what they are talking about when the book gave you clear instructions. The time to question the teachings is over it passed when you decided to learn from it, if it tells you to do something just do it unless doing so will legit put you or somebody else in danger.
  22. Shinzen has specific techniques to deal with that, in fact his entire method is based around that, when you listen to music, use the hear-out method, when you are watching a movie use that to do trigger practice, when you are talking to a loved one use one of the nurture positive techniques and whenever you feel bored use feel in to really experience the boredom. The trick is more to make meditating a habit rather than an action. And it genuinely works I can't listen to music any other way now and whenever I sit in the bus or train I automatically start meditating as soon as I get bored.
  23. I've recently had an insight that has helped me make a lot of progress and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. When I see Leo talk about the ego he talks about it like the ego is the enemy, something that has to be fought, an entity that is always scheming and tricking to keep the illusion of control and power and only after a struggle and after the fight has been won can the true self emerge. My insight was basically the opposite the ego is like a weak, frightened and wounded little child and all my actions as an ego are taken to make existence a little bit less painful and that is the only way the ego knows to cope..so ultimately what the ego needs is complete acceptance, love and patience. And I wonder whether the antagonistic language isn't doing more harm than good. Of course different strokes for different folks but I'd still like to hear your opinions. If I am wrong, where did I go wrong and how have I misled myself.
  24. @Brimstone @Maxx @Joseph Maynor Thanks guys you've given me much to work on. I don't want to just give a knee-jerk reaction so i'll just work through what you have given me and eventually come back.
