The fence is protecting the protestors. The feds want to protect it at all costs. They want to stay inside and only come out to protect the fence. They stay inside the courtyard until the crowd thins out around 3am. Then they come out and patrol the streets The protestors have gotten very good at combating the tear gas. They form protected phalanxes and blow the gas bas into the courtyard with leaf blowers. Plus their tolerance for gas exposure is much higher. So the feds have been unleashing enormous amounts of gas. The crowd is chill right now, yet it will likely intensify. I don’t know how the feds will respond if the fence comes down. It would highly escalate the situation. If the crowd was still large, they may feel like their lives are in danger. They may run back into the courthouse or fire lots of high impact projectiles. I hope it doesn’t get worse than that. -

I heard 30% bigger than last night. It’s the biggest night. The feds do not want the fence to come down. They are intensely defending it. They unleash enormous tear gas last night. It filled three blocks at the ne point.I think the fence is actually good for protestors, yet as the night goes on - the energy will intensify. I agree negotiations are important, yet it’s a nonfactor in tonight’s dynamics Here they come. . . -

The fence is highly significant and symbolic. If it comes down tonight things could escalate dramatically. People may die tonight if the fence comes down. A Tuesday press conference is a non-factor tonight. The crowd is enormous tonight with intense energy. They don’t give a shit about a press conference on tues -

The protests during the day are totally peaceful. It is appropriate for all people to attend: children, pregnant women etc. Just as it’s appropriate to go to a city park. It’s an abuse of power to evoke violence against peaceful protests. That is the bigger problem, wether it is safe for peaceful people to be in their own community. I went to a peaceful protest today and there were children and women just as there should be. I think a lot of people feel the same and want a return to normalcy. It seems that’s why vanilla Biden is doing so well. -

Huge crowd tonight. A new development: there is a wall of veterans. Will a U.S. paramilitary force tear gas a wall of U.S. veterans protecting U.S. citizens? Never in my life could I have imagined this scenario. As well, a group of boogaloo boys came to protect protestors. A crazy plot twist. Yes. I had a good laugh when Trump’s team tried to capitalize on Biden’s sexual assault allegation and then Trump’s team be like “Ohhh, wait a minute. . . “ ? -

Their attempt to demonize Biden is failing. It’s hard to demonize a guy they have characterized as Sleepy Joe with dementia. So they have resurrected the demon spirit of Hilary. -

This is one of the Greenest deconstructions of misogyny I’ve seen. AOC is brilliant Green.

Welp, the mayor got tear gassed and the crowd wasn’t sympathetic since the mayor had been allowing the city police to tear gas them for six weeks. The protestors have a lot of anger to the major and even told him to breathe in the tear gas like they have been from his police force. Crazy plot. The live feed is over, yet the video can still be viewed. -

They city mayor is on the front lines with the protestors! He’s gonna get tear gassed and he has no gas mask or goggles. -
That’s how Trump’s team would like to frame it. Yet the federal law enforcement is not “working alongside” local partners. Governors, Senators, Congresspeople, Mayors and police chiefs have clearly said they do not want the federal forces to enter their state and will do everything in the power to get them out. This appears to be an illegal violation of states rights. It’s ironic how States Rights and preventing federal over-reach used to be a core conservative Republican position. They also used to be strongly in favor of due process. Yet not anymore.

He’s sending paramilitary forces next to Chicago, Albuquerque and Kansas City. It will be interesting to see if the courts will have an impact. Barr is all-in with Trump. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53507660

Also, framing the issue as a simple personal preference misses the point of masks: to reduce the spread of a pathogenic microbe. Mask mandates is not like mandating everyone has to wear green clothing. The issue isn’t personal preference, the issue is stopping the spread of a pathogenic virus. As well, businesses in the U.S. have the right to deny people service. For example, many businesses require that customers wear a shirt and footwear. They are allowed to deny service to customers that enter the store naked. Similarly, businesses are allowed to deny service to people not wearing masks. -

Laws and regulations are not necessarily fascist. For example, there is a law that people cannot drive drunk. People don’t have the right to drive drunk if they choose. A law mandating sober driving is a restriction on personal freedom for the welfare of society. -
He completely commands the room and has everyone under his spell. At 3:00, the male commentator tries to enter the conversation with one of his personal experiences. Russell spontaneously and effortlessly steers the conversation in a totally different direction - to the crew behind him. They all gleefully go along with him, under his spell. It’s like he has a magic wand.

For sure. Someone could say “Thank you” and not really feel it. Another person may feel gratitude and appreciation, yet not express it in words. It reminds me of the different love languages. Some people may express gratitude through acts of kindness, rather than words. This is one thing that threw me off with my narcissistic ex. She would tell me that she expresses caring and gratitude differently than I expect. For example, she had three children, was working a full time job and a part-time graduate student. She would tell me, that creating time to see me was an act of caring, gratitude, giving etc.

I may be too charitable. I’m reflecting on the Vaush’s video on freedom of speech that was recently posted on the forum. Several times the caller said that this was just Vaush’s personal view, why should he get to say which speech should be banned and who gets to regulate it. This opened the door to relativity. Each time Vaush responded something like “Of course it’s just my belief. Everyone advocates for what they believe to be true. I’m not saying I would be regulating speech. I’m saying there could be a some entity that regulates speech”. So, he had a very basic awareness of relativity, yet then he went straight back to stating how we can construct philosophically sound positions and had a very absolutist tone that his views are objectively correct. One thing I like about Vaush is how intellectually tight and precise he can be. It’s like an INTP on steroids. My mind is much more fluid and at times I appreciate someone that is intellectually hyper grounded, structured and precise.

I’m introverted and I don’t claim that I would ever be able to match his charisma. Part of his charisma is that it is amazingly intuitive and spontaneous. Yet there are still some things I can observe about him and develop to an extent. For example, I’ve never seen anyone handle Candice Owens the way Russell did. In particular, I watched how he was able to disarm her. I became aware of new dynamics of communication that I’ve been using in my own communication. I’m not saying that I can do it at Russel’s level, yet I can have a genuine, playful, non-threatening demeanor and I find watching Russell helps my expression.

That is one strategy. I suppose it’s possible to pull off. They can try to portray all the protests as “bloodlusty anarchist rioters” that threaten our American way of life. And Trump is the strong “Law and Order” president to defend them. This works to an extent. About 38% of the population believes this. The strategic mistake I think Trump is making is that he wants to divide the country into two groups and his group is the smaller group. His escalations will work to excite his base, yet I don’t think he will be able to attract regular, moderate Americans. This is the group he is losing from 2016. Average Americans are not buying the narrative that all protestors and the entire blm movement are “bloodlusty anarchist rioters”. I think a better strategy would be for Trump to acknowledge that there are some peaceful protestors, they have a right to peacefully protest and that he respects that right. He could stress that there are also a lot of violent protestors and he doesn’t want things to get out of hand. I think this approach would look more sane to average Americans. The question of whether he can effectively distract attention away from his coronavirus mismanagement depends on whether people see the protestors as mostly violent and a serious threat - a threat more serious than the coronavirus threat. If suburban women are scared that some terrorist group called antifa may actually enter their community, they may overlook the mismanagement of the coronavirus. However, if most people see the protestors as mostly peaceful with some vandals spray painting confederate statues, they will get very irritated that Trump is focusing on this rather than the coronavirus crisis. So far, it looks like Trump is losing this narrative battle. With this strategy, Trump needs to escalate and provoke protestor violence. A couple months ago, Portland was having large protests with considerable vandalism. Then the protests fizzled out. A couple weeks ago, the protests were down to a couple dozen protestors. There was no need for Trump to send in a federal militia. When the federal militia entered and started tear gassing, beating and kidnapping regular people, it inflamed the situation and re-escalated. The protests went from a few dozen people to tens of thousands of people again. . . . Yet can Trump sell it as violent rioters in Portland to win suburban votes in Iowa and Ohio? To me, that is a big gamble. Especially when people are more concerned about losing their jobs and school closures in the coronavirus crisis. As well, I think a lot of people are getting tired of Trump’s con artist games.
