In what sense do you want to know about their differences? In terms of effects: DMT tends to be a more richly visual/sensual detailed experience that leaves the ego fairly intact, whereas 5-MeO-DMT is more void of content and is highly ego dissolving. To me they are somewhat polar opposites, or two sides of the same coin. *disclaiminer: I've never tried DMT, only 5-MeO-DMT, but I've tried a lot of drugs that orbit around DMT, and am a major drug nerd, so this is the understanding I've garnered from a lot of reading and experience with substances that are close to DMT

@Arhattobe How old are you? Do you consider yourself to be a layperson, or a monk, or how would you characterize your lifestyle? Do you have children? I'm curious to learn about how involved in the tangly game of maya/samsara/life you are. -

No I didn't exclude the buddha, you've misinterpreted me. What I said is that we're not talking about him 2600 years later because he got part way there. As in: we are talking about him 2600 years later because he made it all the way. Actually, we're talking about him because he transmitted his awakening effectively. -

At some point he noticed that starving yourself to death in the forest is a fruitless pursuit and he adopted the middle path, but I see what you're getting at. It's just getting a bit silly around here with all the enlightenment signalling, which has now blossomed into full on flag waving. -

No website? No wonder you're not fully enlightened yet.. all the great masters have websites jk -

It produces guilt and suffering if you're attached to being enlightened. Enlightenment as a process is something that's continually unfolding, and something that everyone can experience. But "being enlightened" is so paradoxical that it's beyond rare. Why distance enlightenment from mastery? True enlightenment is the ultimate mastery, black belt of all black belts, completely transcending the idea of black belt. We're not talking about Gautama Buddha 2600 years later (or whatever) because he made it part way there. Maybe no one ever gets there, and that's ok. Newbies shouldn't have the idea that they can become enlightened because it just confuses the whole thing. It becomes an ego trip and an obstacle in itself. Enlightenment is like the North Star in that it gives us a reference point for navigation, but we don't try to get it. This is a difficult and thorny subject to discuss, and I hesitate to do so... these opinions are in no way intended to represent the truth lol. -

I don't see a problem with starting with 5-MeO-DMT per se, but you should start at a low dose and work your way up slowly over a few sessions if you do, because it will be very new terrain if you've never taken a psychedelic at all. I think if you're feeling good about it, no problem. Just get your feet wet lightly at first with it. In my opinion 5-MeO-DMT just cuts to the chase, so if you're down with that, go for it. OTOH it wouldn't hurt to try some mushrooms or acid first either. But not necessary at all. I'd actually say meditation experience is more important as a prerequisite than other psychedelics. -
It may surprise you, but homeless people have girlfriends too lol. When I first hooked up with my now-wife, I was homeless. Granted, I was very secure, had an undergrad degree, but I was living in a tent, all my clothes were weird and ragged, no cell phone (well they weren't something everyone had back then anyways), no car. I wasn't living on the street, just didn't have a home and all that at the time. She was and still is a true beauty both inside and out who seemed to charm the whole world around her. Now we have children, a nice house, all the trappings of a "successful couple". I know she wouldn't have trusted me if I had the impression of being a permanently lost, useless homeless man, of course! "Homeless" wasn't my identity or lot in life, it was just that at the time, I didn't have a home. But actual homeless street people have girlfriends too. Haven't you ever noticed that?

Thank you. Does being in this persistent non dual, non-thinking state compromise your ability to perform the day to day tasks which require discrimination? Do these things happen "automatically" perhaps taken care of by now lower levels of mind where your conscious awareness no longer resides? Are you considered sane and functional by the people around you? Are you a layperson? -
Fair enough. You're going to have some challenges then. If you don't care, and aren't willing to be open, then why would anyone want to be caring and open with you?
-
@Eric Tarpall your list of prerequisites is completely untrue. Yes, simply being male is certainly not enough to get a girlfriend. That's the truth. You can literally be homeless, jobless, without a penny to your name, but 100% authentic in who you are, genuinely caring and open, and there will be a woman who will love you.
-
Yeah man I bet we'd get along pretty well too! I'm a bit private about where I'm from, but I'm lucky to have great terrain with tough hills basically in my backyard. Really rugged trails, amazing views, beautiful nature. I love it! I like your points about how breathing and mindfulness can relate to running. I guess it's obvious that breathing relates to running lol, but being conscious of breathing is cool. Energy output simply comes from burning Oxygen + Glycogen (most of the time)! So being aware of that flow, and keeping it relaxed and open seems to help.

<3 The whole Selected Ambient Works Vol II is the ultimate trip album. Had my first solid acid trip to that album ages ago. It's just magic. Edit: I see Burial posted above too.. nice to see some great taste in here <3

Thanks for your ramble @kieranperez I vibed with a lot of that, followed you the whole way through. I can tell I can learn a lot from running veterans like yourself and Sahil. When I said I want to to run faster, that was an understatement. What I want is to achieve Mastery in running. Not just saying that because of what you wrote, but it's something I put in my personal decade-spanning bucket list at my last birthday. I recognize that "mastery" might be unreasonable though. I've only been running for 7 years, seriously for the past 2 of those, and I'm in my early 40s. I think real genius level running master would probably need to start as a teen. Doesn't hurt to shoot high though. Trail running is my passion, but I see track as a great way to cross train and quantify speed. I had a massive breakthrough with downhill running (on acid lol). Now, I'm a downhill running master. I could teach people, but no one would listen to me because I'm an old rookie haha. Uphill is a different story, I have a long way to go. I'm looking for the breakthrough with this too, but I'm not sure there is one. I think it might just be a matter of putting in the training to develop the right strength and aerobic capacity. If anyone's had a break throughs with this I'd love to hear about it. I think I have a lot to learn wrt. the mental aspects of running, and technique. I love getting to the point where everything is telling me to stop, and I just stay on top and say "No, this is just what it feels like to get better at running. Keep going." But I can go further with gaining discipline in this, and in other softer parts of the mental game, race strategy, attitude and so on. As for technique, I think a lot of that will come naturally with faster running. I know what you mean about robots, it's funny when you see someone obviously forcing some form that they're not really ready for, or that doesn't fit in with the rest of their form. On the other hand I want to stay open to adjustments, because after the downhill breakthrough I can see how a change can result in big improvements. Right now I'm using a JD program that calls for 2 Q (quality) workouts a week. I pick the harder of the 2 and then substitute a trail run for the other. On the trail run I just let myself go for it without any holding back. I have so much fun with it that it ends up being what feels like a really good workout. The JD prescribed Q workout always feels amazing too, it takes me right to the limit without leaving me too worn out to run the next day. Every other day I just run really easy, volume miles. I really like those too, it's nice to just run without pressure, listen to an audiobook or whatever. The exception is once a week I usually take a full day off, and maybe another day I'll double up a run. I guess I'm describing my approach in case it triggers any insights. Do you have any intuitions around what directions I should pursue to maximize mastery (or so) of running?

OMG I just typed an epic response and it didn't submit properly. I'll take that as a sign that it was a little too epic, consolidate my thoughts and try again later. Thanks for your words, I appreciate it.

Yeah no. It's silly bunk stuff. Biological perpetual motion machine.

Cool guys. Looking forward to it @kieranperez lol It seems like his paces and workouts are finely tuned, they really feel right for me. I know he's really well respected in the running world, it's encouraging to hear that you guys seem to give it the thumbs up too. I want to become a faster runner, and following his systems seems like the best way forward for me right now.

I've never used or had a benzo on hand for killing a trip. It seems like a sacrilege to me, but I'm being dogmatic and totally get why it's not a bad idea. Still, I like fully committing to a trip without giving myself an exit door. Keep in mind that if you take a benzo during a trip, you really aren't sober. Just so people don't get the idea of getting behind the wheel in that circumstance. -

200µg should be a good dose. Keep in mind that 200µg should be a fair bit stronger than the 225µg of AL-LAD you took. 1P-LSD is basically 1:1 with regular old LSD in terms of dosage and effects. At your friends house, would you have to conceal the fact that you're tripping from your hosts? It would probably be uncomfortable having to conceal this, and having to "act normal" around them, this would bring your trip down to earth in a way you're probably not looking for. If you can be open about what you're doing there, that sounds like a really ideal setting. If not, I'd be hesitant. At home, I don't think you'd need a full uninterrupted 48h to integrate. If you can be uninterrupted during your actual trip, and then deal with some visitors after, I think you'll be fine. I actually really enjoy the opportunity to observe normal day to day interactions after a trip is done. It can be a very interesting bridge. -
In principle HCl crystals should be more stable in storage than freebase. However if you have it in solution, like would be the case after you added vinegar, IMO it would be less stable because it's in water where reactions can happen, and impurities and oxygen are floating around in the off the shelf vinegar.

I know what you mean, but be careful with this line. On the one hand we can indeed be very good at extrapolating rich information from reading peoples faces, but on the other hand you really can't judge a book by it's cover. I tend to agree with Elisabeth here. You've got to give people a fair chance and not try to simplify reality by judging someone by their appearance. This is exactly how racism works, but here you're looking at a different set of characteristics than skin colour. The information you are reading from looking at someone's face is coming from deep seated stereotypes. If your initial reading *is* accurate, there is always the potential for someone to change, and there's also always going to be a lot more nuance to it. I wouldn't bet on trump getting on the yoga mat either, but you just don't know. Let's not turn spiral dynamics into another way to judge and separate people. Rather, let's use it as a tool for growth. It's a model of reality, not reality itself. No one's *actually* on any particular stage of the spiral.

@Shodan you're just repeating ascetic dogma here. I'm not going to claim that celibacy isn't an important step for some people in some circumstances, but from what I've observed, in general, striving for celibacy causes far more problems than it solves. Celibacy constipates spiritual growth because it buries what is a normal and natural part of being a human being under layers of fake walls to keep their sex drive under wraps. This creates a barrier to authenticity, and sexuality ends up leaking out anyways. Just because someone takes a vow of celibacy, doesn't make their sexual nature disappear.

It's so weird that there's this anti-cardio sentiment out there. The idea that "cardio is bad for" you is a cop out used by lazy people use to justify sitting on their ass. Many bodybuilder types trumpet this message too, being so precious about their bodies that they think going for a jog will catabolize their hard-earned pectoral or deltoid. Cardio is massively beneficial to your health. It improves your heart, lung, circulatory function, reduces your risk factors for many many prevalent diseases. It's the most effective way to burn calories and excess fat. It makes you feel good and alive. You don't need to do it every day, but you can. You definitely don't need to push it into the red every day. Something around 30-60minutes 4 or 5 times a week is probably kind of optimal for most healthy adults.
