I am not an american, but as a student of politics, i might be able to give you some insight on this. Iowa primary has been historically the first of all primaries for both democratic and republican party. This is the state from where the journey of winning the party nomination begins. According to the number of delegates, Iowa does not count much as it only offers 1% of the total number of delegates but it has got more significance if you think about momentum wise. Winning a nomination is a long process. Each candidate has to go through 4+ months of primaries happening all over the US and they usually begin their campaign much more ago. So those who get a winning or near winning start from Iowa usually brings freshness in his/her campaign and it helps them to win other primaries. Those who lose, struggles to keep their campaign alive. If you go thorough the history, you will see that many campaigns had died after doing terrible at Iowa. So that is why Iowa is valued so much. There are some counter views to this position as in the recent past, winning iowa did not assure that the winner eventually became the nominee. That is true for the case of Donald Trump. He did not win Iowa in 2016 but went on to secure the republican nomination anyway. To me, Iowa is mostly a hype that gets created by the media. Winning/losing Iowa is although a great deal but not as great as people and the media like to assume.

@Leo Gura I think you are obviously over-looking your own self biases. You tell us being acting like children for results, but the fact is that it's been two days since the Iowa caucus and still we couldn't get the full results. You are ignoring the fact that it will obviously cast doubt on voter's mind because it is obviously not normal. Your justification of the current system sound like if i were in 1860 US and protested against slavery then you would say, "why are you acting like children? Slavery has always been part of our system so be all right for it and let the authority double check if they think slavery if justified or not". This is not a way of looking and dealing with a problem. Just because something's been happening like a way do not mean it has to continue to happen in that way. If the system is flawed then definitely we have the right to take a closer look at that and hold for account. -
02/04/2020 I don't know why i felt very sick this evening. I also didn't feel like studying, so i took the day off. Now, i find myself worried. Presumably, the admission exam is about to take place sometime in April and i haven't got my hons result yet!! What if i don't get my result in time? It will be a disaster, as then i won't be able to get admit, even if i am selected for MBA. But hey, there is no point of thinking like that way. I do not have control over getting the result, so i figured out that i will not be worrying about that. I would focus on what i can do instead. Right now, what i can do is just study and hope for the best. That is what i have decided to do.

Result delay can create doubt in the minds of people and indeed it is not a goon sign given what had happened in 2016. -
@Leo Gura would you ban a racist in this process? I think you should because i have seen racist in your Society forum. Don't you think that's toxic too?
-
@Leo Gura i think you need to set up a common guideline for people to show them what can get them banned. Even the police lets the citizen know about the law.

@Leo Gura i live in a country which was the most corruptive country according to Transparency International's ranking for 5 consecutive years in 2000s. Now the situation has improved a bit but not enough to call it even a semi corrupt country. If a country continues to perform like this on the corruption index, people starts to loose faith in the government. The sentiment like "what is the point of giving tax if it will most likely end up in a corrupt person's pocket?" takes root in people's mind. They think it is better to save that money for themselves rather than giving it as tax. I know this is not a good way of thinking but this is the reality. The government needs to build trust among people that their money won't get wasted and those will be spent for the purpose of development/social welfare. -

I do not agree with the narrative that the US media is selling right now that it will be difficult for Bernie to beat Trump. I just think the opposite. Trump got elected in 2016 because most of the voters were tired of fake front of traditional politicians and their corporate links. They wanted someone who is anti establishment or at least appears like that. Trump and his team understood that and exploited the sentiment in a negative way. On the other hand, Bernie successfully created a movement back in 2016 although he lost the primary to Clinton. But the voters who resonated with him did not let his movement die. They are also anti establishment and rallying behind Bernie. No other democratic candidate right now has more loyal followers than Bernie. In my view, he will easily get the nomination this time. Now in the case of Trump, most of the people are disillusioned and now they can see how much of a devil he is. So his follower will weaver. Most moderate republican voters are now sceptical about him. Of course trump's team is gonna label Bernie as "communist" and try to instill fear among voters by saying that "Bernie will turn our country into present Venezuela " but i think this bullshit won't fly. If team sanders can handle that properly, then i am optimistic that America will get President Sanders in 2021, first to be a democratic Socialist President. -
According to evolution theory, there were no first man. Our old form was ape and we evolved for millions of years and got the present features as "human". What i have seen from my early age is that religious people in my society tend to aggressively deny evolution theory. I have heard things like Darwin is stupid, he is so wrong about human, he is ignorant and so on. Religious people believe that the first man was adam and he was sent as human by god. This is the truth and whoever denies that is actually ignorant. For that reason, i did not studied evolution in my childhood and teenage because i blindly fell into the religious beliefs until i had decided to test the water and open my mind. I although don't know if the evolution theory is correct or not. What is your view on it?

i do have the necessity to ignore people on occasions although i don't feel good about doing it whenever i do it. I am not good at confronting a person and tell him/her directly about what's bothering me. Its quite painful for me to do and i have noticed that even if i try to do that, i can not deliver the full picture of what is bothering me to that person. So i prefer just ignoring that person, sometimes without a notice. I think i have passive aggressive issue, so i need to work on that as well.

Unemployment problem is one of the biggest problems of the 21st century. It means an adult person, typically 18-65 years old are not participating in any economic activity. Recently a study has been conducted to figure out the current number of unemployed person around the world. It illustrated that every one in five person in the world is currently unemployed. So among the 20% unemployed people, a significant number of people are educated. It is the responsibility of every government to address this issue effectively. The United Nation had adopted many policies such as MDG and SDG in the last few decades but that didn't solve the problem entirely. So all the government should take a fresh look at the problem and come up with a more sustainable solution. What do you guys think about it? It has affected many families, so do you have any experience with that?

@silene I think unemployment problem has many dimensions and two of the most important dimensions are personal and social aspect. From the personal point of view, unemployment is a disaster. An unemployed person fails to support himself/herself financially, therefore making it hard for him/her to survive in the world. Then comes the social aspect, because the society also has a responsibility to take care of that unemployed person. Most third world societies couldn't care less about the wellbeing of an unemployed person. They are just too much unconscious to do so and lacks in capability as well. On the other hand, in a developed society, an unemployed person can get unemployment benefits as the society takes responsibility of that person. It can also be problematic because then there is a fear of rising dissatisfaction among employed people because they have to take the indirect burden of unemployed person. Lastly, i do not think giving unemployed people some benefits because of their unemployment is a sustainable long term solution. It may work in short term, but ultimately it serves the purpose of band aiding the wound without actually taking care of it. So i think the government must address this issue head on by creating more jobs instead of settling down with short term solution or no solution at all. -
Ok. Let me start by saying that i have been noticing this happening to me for the last six months. I have made a string of plans (mostly roadmap toward my goal) and set different objectives to achieve it. In that effort i need to achieve some milestones as well. What i have noticed is that after working on a project for 5-6 days, i loose motivation/interest on that and start doing other work. After some days of doing other work, i loose interest to that work and usually going back to my original project work. The thing is both of the works are necessary for me, but they do not go along with my original plan. My plan demands that i stick with one project at first, do that for a certain period of time to achieve the desired milestone, then move on to the next. But my habit of loosing interest and then again going back to it hampers regularity and straight way of doing that thing. Is it a normal thing to happen? Or am i doing things in a wrong way?

@Leo Gura can you explain that a little bit? I have heard a lot of people talking about psychoanalysis in a positive way.

@Apparition of Jack i agree with your point. I have completed graduation recently, now again i have to go through basic maths and English grammar which were taught at high school. I did my major in social science, so now i have to relearn those things. This is a example how our system promotes going backwards and ineffective. Seriously, my country's education system does a poor job at teaching us basic survival skills. -
Annoynymous replied to Parththakkar12's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
@Parththakkar12 collaboration simply can not happen to some education systems which prioritizes competition more than collaboration. In my country, this sort of system is very common in spite of being toxic in many ways. When high school students are just working on their grades as a mean to get validation from parents and society, they often end up being jealous and envious towards their fellow classmates. It's not their fault specially when the education system itself promotes this toxicity by designing the system such a way. By being a part of this system, students often forgets being empathic and ends up often hating each other. On the other hand, collaborative education systems helps a student more to excel. It is more healthy and humane. It teaches one to be an empath rather than becoming a narcissistic jealous hateful competitor. -

@Alissa so you are trying to say when i am planning, i must take all possible calamities into account?

Beliefs are fundamental to ego. If you think about the definition of ego you will notice that it is basically a limited identity based upon a web of beliefs. If we go on and see one of our core beliefs is contradicting the reality, then we get insecured because it threatens the the whole web of beliefs and thus, our ego. As a survival machine, we can not risk losing our ego as our ego maintains our "story". This storyline usually help us giving a purpose to life. If we discover that our beliefs are false, then our storyline looses its credibility and we experience loss of direction and meaning. We, as an ego, do not want that fundamentally. That is why changing or discrediting a belief is so hard in the first place. It is also a reason why spirituality feels so hard.

01/21/2020 Today i feel lot better. I have started studying here and there a bit. I want to create a positive momentum to motivate myself into doing the work that is needed to be done on a daily basis. If i do the work daily, i will succeed. My emotional condition has also improved. Sometimes i can get stuck in my mind and repetitively think negative thoughts that make me insecured and anxious. I need to work on that too. I am currently exploring youtube to find solutions to my problem. So far i have found two channels - one is mindvalley which covers practical self help stuffs and another channel which mainly deals with narcissism and how to deal with it. I subscribed to the latter one as i doubt i was/is under some sort of narcissistic influence in my life. So i want to recognise the pattern of narcissistic behaviour in order to take precaution and identify if there is any person like that currently exist in my life. I believe self education is the best form of education

@Shiva even if we do not keep cows in the farm, would they be just cease to exist? If they don't, they would eat plants anyway because they would also want to survive like human.

It's turning out to be a bad day. I am in great pain due to headache and my streak of not doing the study is going on. I am definitely feeling bad mentally and emotionally and i don't know what the problem is. Maybe this is a call for me to change my lifestyle and habits. But yeah, i am passing through dark times now, i can feel it.

Guys, i want you to look into this video that i have found - I am not an American so i don't know much about red pill. This channel's name is coach red pill and i have discovered this channel couple of years ago. But through this forum i kinda got the vibe that red pill is something pretty bad or negative. So i abstained from watching this channel's video. But today i had decided that i wanna explore it a bit. I saw this video, i find some of it quite resonating with me although i am very much confused about whether to follow it or not. So guys, i want you opinion of it. I think it will be helpful for me to sort out my confusion. I also will be delighted if someone gives me some insight on red pill.
