Radical Honesty replied to Leo Gura's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Ok good. What is it about Ghandi which, if he had the brain and life of Hitler, he would have done differently? Are you trying to say there is some moral soul in Ghandi that Hitler lacks? -

No you wouldn't. You would say 'I love you fully but you should stop crack unless you want to have a terrible life'. Why would you hate your child for doing crack? Due to their upbringing and genes, there is no scenario in which they couldn't have taken crack. -

What do you mean by this? I'm not arguing that we shouldn't punish rapists. We should punish only in order to prevent further rapes. Or in order to lock them away so they don't rape anyone else. -

These thing are clearly wrong—but what does hate solve? Hating someone because they were born with psychopath genes into an abusive family which led them to commit some atrocity just doesn't make any sense. -

@Lha Bho Not at all. You still have choices. However the decision you make to either hate or not hate the rapist is only dependent on your past experience, genes and neurology. How could it be otherwise? None of these things are in your control in the present moment—so how can you have free will? There is no logical reason to believe in free will. And if you examine your moment to moment experience, you will realise it is an illusion. Let me put it another way. Imagine you swapped places with the rapist the moment before he chose to rape. If your brain is in the exact same state as his and you have had the exact same past experiences—can you see there is no way you could not chose to rape? -

Why would you hate the rapist? There is no way he couldn't have raped the person given his past, genetics and neurology at the time. Hate doesn't make sense once you understand that free will is an illusion. All you can do is pity him. -

@John Flores Psychopaths certainly don't experience the truth of no self. They are incredibly attached to status, ego and self-image. Psychopaths merely lack the capacity for empathy—and tend not to care much for compassion. -

@Paulo Barbosa Of course they are—but if you feel kindness toward yourself, you will be much more willing to help those causes. -
The problem usually isn't approaching girls. It's approaching them in a meek/half-assed way where you are trying to hide your attraction. Girls can sense when your body language and words do not match. If you are open and honest about your attraction you will be far more successful.

@Prabhaker This is very true. One way to heighten your awareness is to do 10 minutes of walking meditation before you do your formal practice. Over time, you will learn to bring this awareness when you are walking anywhere. This will help you break out of the habit of treating meditation as synonymous with sitting and watching your breath. @Motus This just isn't true. Possessions and security are completely irrelevant to enlightenment. throwing all these away doesn't solve anything. -
Lets be honest he's a scammy cu**.

If only other human species like Neanderthal, Erectus and Floresiensis survived until now. It would be interesting to see the moral dilemmas they would pose. Would we treat them like people? Or would be care for them as little as we do for the great apes.

Radical Honesty replied to Annie's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Annie It works—but is 100% placebo. They literally give you a sugar pill. People don't realise how effective placebos actually are. I don't know what your skin condition is so I couldn't tell you. Have you been to an actual medical doctor or just a alternative doctor? -

@Peace and Love Be careful believing what Dr. Douglas Graham tells you. Have a look into the studies/evidence he gives and you'll find the conclusions he makes from it are invalid. Don't believe everything you read--especially as you probably select your reading material based on if it supports your believes (confirmation bias). There isn't enough evidence to show that a vegan/vegetarian diet is healthier than one with meat. However, there isn't enough evidence to show the converse. Therefore, stop trying to convert people based on health reasons. Most people understand that eating meat causes unnecessary suffering--yet think that it's too difficult to stop. Focus on converting them based on: 1) They can stop unnecessary suffering and 2) It's not that much effort

@Live Life Liam The nutrition industry is a joke. Most conclusions made in nutrition 'science' are based on correlations and therefore they cannot tell you anything of meaning about whats healthy and what isn't. Moreover, most studies are funded by organisations who sell supplements.

@Antonio Yes! Although you won't be able to devote as much time to each of them individually. @Arman I like that

@Annie Stay away from homeopathy. There is no evidence supporting it and it doesn't make any sense theoretically. Of course, the placebo effect it produces will help you out--but you can get greater benefits from cheaper and more effective treatments.
